Astiron

Astiron is perhaps the most well known of the non-mainland civilisations within Orcovia, being both famous for it's holiday destination within Baygate, and infamous for the plants found there, some of which are capable of creating the strongest known poisons. Some of the small villages outside of Baygate are said to have their own ways of using these plants, with some legends- or superstitions- telling of another race altogether of woodland dwellers, with strange abilities. However, those from the mainland who consider themselves intelligent dismiss this as myth, and the islanders themselves deny all knowledge of such a race. However, the Island still gathers mystery and fame from this myth, and also from the other strange inhabitants- Astiron being home to the only known non-travelling settlement of the Aerie Folk, a small town named Bellshade that is often referred to as the Capital or the hometown of all Aerie.

Geography

A small Island just off the coast of the mainland Orcovia, mainly plains with some hills and a few scattered forests. While some small villages lie within the hills and the woods, the main draw for outsiders is the town of Baygate, situated on the coastline of the plains area of the Island. The views of the sea, and on clear days the coast of the mainland, are well known to be stunning, and the exports from the island itself brings merchants from all over the continent, and even from further away.

Fauna & Flora

While much of the island is taken up in plains, the richest area of the island for plant life are the forests, which are full of different, and often unique, forms of fauna. This plantlife varies massively, from flowers used in medicine to leaves that create the most deadly of poisons,

Natural Resources

The main exports of the island, outside of course of the tourist income made through holidaying mainlanders, are the unique kinds fauna that are found within the forests. Some have healing capabilities, some are delicacies in the capital, some are used for more... sinister purposes. Either way, the plants bring a strong source of income for the island, and create a monopoly wherein the only place to buy them is Astiron itself. While some income is generated through selling the wood from the forests, and some of the Island's food grown in the plains is sold, the majority of income comes from these plants, with many families in Baygate owning shops in which to sell them.
