Geminit

If I had a coin for each head...
-Luxan Eulkiel
This highly dangerous, two-headed but toothless dragon, lives in forested areas near mountains in which it builds its caves by fiercly smashing its head into the wall.   One of its two heads (alpha) is capable of retching out corrosive acid, while the other head (beta) is blind and covered to the mouth with bone plates.   They live in forested areas near mountains and build caves by having the Beta smash its head into the mountain. As such, the Geminit is the bane of some Anima Settlements.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The whole body of the geminit is covered with dark bone plates. Its tail is divided into two, club-like parts, which it uses to balance its inertia and also fend off attackers from behind. However, the main characteristic of the Geminit are its two heads. These look absolutely the same at birth, but develop differently. One of the heads becomes the so-called alpha, it starts to produce corrosive acid, it also starts to give commands to the second head, the so-called beta by a range of low growling and clicking noises. This is because more and more bone plates are forming on the head of the beta, which slowly but surely take away its sight.

Genetics and Reproduction

Geminit are sexually mature within approximately five years old. Their mating season takes place between the end of the first Muta and up to the middle of the Aesta. During this time, the males will compete for a female by fighting; beta heads will bash against each other repeatedly until one falls unconscious. During mating, both partners entwine their necks until fertilization is completed. The female is then occupied for two months with building a nest, preferably within a small cave in a mountain. Once the nest has been built, she lays two eggs, which incubate for two months before hatching. Once the eggs have hatched, the mother leaves, and the offspring are left to their own devices.

Growth Rate & Stages

Giminit are adolescent until the age of 2, when the development of each head begins to change. When reaching sexual maturity at age 5, the beta has lost all sight and the Geminite is considered an adult, however, many Geminite will not be fully grown until the age of 10.

Ecology and Habitats

The Geminit's natural habitat is found in forests close to the mountains. It creates its den inside these mountains by the beta smashing its head against the stone to chip it away. Territories are often several square kilometres, and are marked by the acid of the alpha. Geminits will only leave this territory during their mating season to search for a mate.

Dietary Needs and Habits

As adolescents, Geminit hunt small rodents and fish. At this stage of life, it uses little strategy and the two heads will often argue. Once the Geminit is fully developed, it hunts larger animals like Aurim and Mirducor, but they will not shy away from hunting humans, Anima, and Vitra. Its hunting strategy is quite simple; the alpha gives instructions to the beta, which can deliver blows so strong even one hit can fatally injure even the strongest animals. Once the prey is unconscious or dead, the alpha secrets its acid over the body to liquefy so it can be eaten easily.

Biological Cycle

The Geminit hibernate through the Hie in their caves. In the month before hibernation, Geminit will become particularly aggressive, and their time spent searching for food increases.

Additional Information

Domestication

It is said that there were already people, Vitra and even Anima, who raised and tamed a Geminit from the day of his birth.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The acid is used for hardening forged swords and for various alchemical recipes.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Forests near mountains

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Due to the acid it produces, the alpha head has lost its sense of smell and taste, however these senses have become stronger in the beta head. The alpha's eyesight is sharp and it is capable of seeing well in the dark, while the beta is completely blind. Their hearing is average, so the alpha relies mostly on eyesight while the beta relies mostly on sense of smell.
