Steinmetz Associates

Smaller corporation in Bayport, though welathy and powerful in themselves. Founded by Patrick Steinmetz, who ran everything at the ocmpany until his death in 1615, when he left the company to his daughters, who were unprepared to run it, but did their best.

Structure

Patrick had been the undisputed president, and after his death, this position is held by Laura and Edith. There is a council of officers under them: Franklin, the attorney; Vogel the office manager; Compson the financial officer; Ignatius the general secretary. None of them knew the operation as a whole, and so the company is in some disarray.

Public Agenda

They are a trading company, importing and exporting goods throughout the western Ocean. They are known for being relatively honest in their dealings, though they are Bayport merchants, after all.

Assets

They own a number of ships; they own docks and warehouses in South Bayport; they have a headquarters building on Chestnut street in old Bayport; they have outposts in Lenay, Storm Island, Westport and Isadore.

History

The company was formed in 1586 in Bayport by Patrick Steinmetz, a 40 year old merchant. He had worked int he trade for many years, buying and selling, sailing to Storm Island, Lenay, The Kingdom and the Southern Ocean, working as agent for other companies. He amassed enough capital (including support from partners) to establish his own company in 1586. He controlled a few ships, he continued to work as agent for other companies, though now under his own banner. The company grew - buying dockage and warehouses in South Bayport, more ships, facilities in Westport and Lenay City, before the wars changed the economy. He was ready to exploit the new situation, and his business grew exponentially in the late 90s and 00s, as trade from the south to Waynesiubrg began to flow through Bayport instead of along the river. At this point, though, unlike many of the other similar companies in Bayport, he stopped expanding - he did not want to give up any control of the company. So it stayed a middle- sized company in the 00s, even as rivals became international powerhouses.    His death, in 1615, threw the company into chaos. No one else knew the whole business; worse, no one knew who would be given control of the company, until his will was read. He left it to his daughters, Laura and Edith - who had had no connection tot he company before it. This only made the confusion worse, and precipitated a crisis in the company which also created opportunities for mischief among other groups in the town.
