Bayport Time Line

This is a straight up chronology of events in Bayport, to use until I build something more official like a time line.   Settled in antiquity, by Caric and then German migrants.  300 - well established village, travel through the may, up the rivers and so on 900-1000s - after the unification of the Kingdom the Kingdom controlled most fo the north, and settlements like Bayport grew 1000s - Viking raids required fortifications, which led to the beginning of draining systems and building up areas 1200 - rough beginning of inland flood control - dykes and canals and pumps and so on started to be built 1300 - beginning of more concerted urban planning, driven by increased trade; this is when the Barnet river was dammed and canals built to carry its flow to the sea. the Magnus and Grand Canals were built, and the areas between reclaimed and used for building. Southern areas were sketched in though not developed.  - this is also when long distance sailing began. 1400 - most of the canal zone was built up; the area south of the Grand Canal was still open swamp, divided by canals, and was built up slowly through the century. 1450 - Bayport was thriving, due to increased trade in the Viking Sea, and some of the pressures of the Reformation and wars to the east. 1450-70: the first war of religion drove an influx of refugees, the building of new fortifications - many of them around waterways. Much of the southern part of the city was developed in this period - nbot so much settled as drained and built up and so on.
  • It also led to the reformation coming to Bayport.
  • 1478 - second war of religion started. This started between the Kingdom and Oceanside, but spread up to Bayport, which became a center of resistance. AS this went on, Bayport built up its defenses, and expanded. Large strong houses were built; estates popped up around the city. 1502-1513 - third war of religion; ends with northern and reformed victory.
