Portal Dementia
Portal Dementia is what occurs when certain individuals pass through some form of long distant travel by a short mechanical displacement traversal such as teleportation, trans-universal portals, or slipping through tears. Individuals effected may suffer from prolonged dizzy spells, to such extremes as delusions, extreme migraines, short term memory loss, motor skill impairment, and potentially a distortion of perspective in self-consciousness (such as not knowing one is a person for a moment). Effected individuals vary in frequency and severity. Its unknown whether the root conflict is a sensitivity to planetary magnetic fields, a birth condition, or something in the neurological development of the person. However, some extreme symptoms can be calmed with similar effect to aiding ADD/ADHD, potentially limiting some creative receptors of the mind.
In most cases, this condition is short term and adjustable to a wait. As a result, many fixed portals and gateway systems are set with special waiting stations, and even sometimes a sparse set of beds. It is recommended people effected do not take up careers that involve frequent travel, and when traveling, to do so with a friend that is not effected. Often any long-term issues from this condition, are actually the result of a small malfunction in the device itself, or a delirious individual causing self-harm, and seldom does the issue cause any serious damage in its own happening.
Affected Groups
Almost all traveling species with the same basic cognitive skills set to standards, are vulnerable by roughly 2% of their respective population. Given that ryclins travel often, and are natives to a system where such tears and odd happenings are common, they are most often associated with the condition. However humans, and other life, have been known to suffer from it as well, with even tests finding a captive Grebel that is vulnerable.
