Capreod (Kă-prē-ôhd)

The capreod (also called capri in shorthand) are a race some disputedly describe between goat and wolf-like. Their origins are unknown to be certain, but their normal designated home is the anomaly space many have referred to as Sleep-Realm, derived between its surrealist form and the root name of Isomlas (often misheard close to insomnia). The race is left in a situation where the atmosphere, space, and gravitational physics of the world aren't working with theory that it had a half-casualty situation with The Great Monwaren Bomb, whereas much of the universe simply collapses and ceased to exist. They've had many millennia to adapt however.    They dwell in dream-like spaces of reality, with some pieces and elements not quite making as much sense to their structure and formations. This has incorporated itself even into their society, ruled by people who are dubbed The Edicts. These are great leaders, often born into their role, and molded with discipline. However like a true edict, they are an act of law, and their word is to be obeyed or considered as if read rather than enforced. They are only beacons and examples, but fully enact on influence and control they have to deter people, roughly falling into the same role as key oligarchs.   The state of the world has left them to be found as an 'open secret' among outside society. Greater influencers and ties have allowed the Monware and Qyozmites to visit and understand them, but its less common for busy Taomika or Kasar traffic and beyond to cross so much, with only more incidental cases of discoveries from even wide colonizers like tikerins. However among them famous and infamous are the 'Dream Wells' found in parts of the planet. These are almost black hole type entities used by higher society to throw key objects in, and find them return morphed and disfigured often with magical effects to them. Common results are something like a blade being thrown in, and coming out able to spear flames or ice. In more unfortunate cases, its also reduced things to stones, or forced guns to fire bullets as molten lava that destroys the gun as it projects.

Basic Information

Anatomy

They have a range of features, not all consistent. Their base body is often more bipedally goat-like. They stand on hooves, legs, scruffy fur, and have elongated faces. However the snouts are often more slightly sharped, almost like a canines, with back mauler teeth working in collaboration with more front incisors and canines to form a more predation-able jawline. The top of the scalp actually has a layer above the brain, where the horns grow from. Yet the base they sprout from is very alike to the material itself, and forms a hard plate in the skull that can withstand great trauma. Their arm digits end in more paw-like formats, with stern frictional pads, and small claw nails. While poor at scratching, they've evolved phenomenal grips. Horns often grow out almost straight, but with a distinctly curved hook that flows back before straightening out, making for almost a slight up-curved hook that stills stays to the back when the head is evenly faced. The horn can grow about as big as the knee-to-hoof in relation to the size of the Capreod. From its direction, its difficult for the horn edges to connect with head-butting, and is believed to be more of a feature of health or selective breeding.   Diverging a lot based on genetics include fur patterns, fur length, tail, and even ears. Most ears will eventually grow a little long and heavy, but start out sharp and pointed. Some will crop them to stay that way, but in some descended lines, letting the ears grow out can almost send them drooping down akin to female tikerin ratios. The tail is naturally mid-length, and often blooms at the end like a tufted tip, but some believe this is from continuous trimming. Whether its some selective bloodlines, or a culture fashion, others have seen Capreods groom very fluffy and bushy wolf-like tails. In rare instances, the tuft or bushy fur will curl a bit, usually on those with a more generally shaggy body and fur growth routine. While their fur doesn't quite have the full consistency of wool, it can at times become a thick strand, but some naturally struggle to grow it out even if its not cared for.   Males tend to grow bearded fur strands, and in some instances love to decorate this while others trim it. Females usually grow better tail-fur and have more of a muscular tail structure overall, and many sport fuller bushy tails as a feminine quality or use trimmer tails more like a prehensile tool. Its largely even suspected females have more brain power overall, but rather than intelligence is more of a nervous system that supports better motor skills and using the tail, and in some cases they've made better acrobatic soldiers. Males however retain more dominant shoulder strength. In more recent times, Edicts related to defense have observed and spread orders about this, putting males in more 'stonewall' roles while females retain more speedy armed decisions. Otherwise male/female sex differences are standard to other bipedal mammals with few remarkable distinctions.

Genetics and Reproduction

The vast majority of Capreods simply have one child at a time, though relatively quick at rate with just a 13-17 week gestation period. While not as common with satyr however, most females have a naturally large inclination towards superfetation and may sometimes begin having more than one child if they go through promiscuous choices or an extra-frisky partner.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Capreods are omnivores, nearly to the truest sense. They will eat anything from having a satyr-like double filtering for ingesting heavy fibers and plant matter even in leather and paper, to more meaty products and have been found to occasionally even idolize raw meat consumption in select groups. Socially, habits vary, and they largely agree a lot with their surrounding peers and community or even form systems of dogmatic reasoning for their choices. A cult or cluster may form rites and ideals on hunting and eating raw meat, while others may time more careful and cooked portions with meetings and bonding times like family dinners. Two common lifestyles for soldiers and combatants are even named, diverged between the Stone Gut and Beast Fang pallets - The former driven by lithe gymnastics and a strength proteins and roots, and the latter strictly about raw meals as an art of familiarizing oneself with blood and struggles for a better outcome. Another example outside of combatants, is the Uni-Stomach lifestyle, where one believes feeding on anything including trash helps one unify and take gratitude in their world and leads to a happier spirit. The more one is a picky eater, the more ill their spirit and mind is within such a community.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

While its possible and beneficial to take them for their horns, sturdy pelts, or meat, those are more limited and unpopular qualities from the few aware of them. More valued is the land and Power or Dream Wells they reside close to, and pushing them out of the way to exploit the opportunities is often a large point for invaders and outsiders.

Beauty Ideals

More average mammal customs apply across male and female divides, such as finding a draw to the biceps and sturdy chest of a masculine quality, to more curvaceous shapes with the feminine. On top of this, horns can be carved onto and reshaped for effect, with some variations leading to very distinguished and styled outcomes seen as attractive in society. Edicts are famous for carving out a consistent spiraling figure across their 'hook' in the horns, and may further dress them in ornate accessories or pieces corresponding to their world view of order. Lower roles may vary, and find their own way of attracting mates with horns that stand out or decorate in a diverse way. Some may even find ways to enchant them, or have captivating stories related to breaks. Others may bind them or contort them in early growth to reroute or change the way they grow out. This kind of diverse and unorganized care extends to many other qualities, and has its own sense of beauty or tasteless standards. Fur may be sought longer or shorter by some mates, tail varieties differ, soldiers often look for buff legs and thighs and well cut and maintained tails with cropped ears, while some civilians practicing a potential Uni-stomach fad may in fact favor indulgently plump and shaggy bodies with full tails and drooping ears.    Unified ideals are rare, and essentially the quality needs to be geared towards the place and type of person one wishes to partner with - if they wish to partner at all. In some circles even the act of proud promiscuity or leadership over a harem can invoke attraction from a crowd while others shame such a figure.   This strange nature has lead to numerous fads, with one prominent that most Capreods are attracted to a sense of mystery and enigmatic features. The draw of hiding something drives them curious or even closer to someone, prompting some to fashion themselves more with large hats or horn-adaptable hoods. In other cases they'll flirt with rare alien visitors they don't understand. Yet in this sense, occasionally there are safe guards and perimeters around the environment itself to halt this sense of daring or mystery from hurting someone so drawn or willing to use it to their persona.
