Altar of Secrets

Very Rare
This magic item is an alter specially consecrated by a member of the Cult of the Whispered One. They are common in the Cathedral of Secrets as the Whispered One was one of the founding deities behind that organization.
The altar appears as a long flat slab with a slight lip on the outside of the tabletop. The lip contains a liquid that covers the top of the altar. The liquid does not make anything wet and cannot be removed from the Al-Tor while it remains enchanted.
When an individual has underwent the ritual to unlock the use of these devices he/she is able to reach into the liquid and manipulate the papers and scrolls within the liquid. These papers and scrolls are correspondences and discussions of forbidden or legally regulated topics. Attuned users are able to contribute to conversations by writing their responses on the scrolls.
Public comments left on the altar are regularly archived but can be accessed or restored by specially trained necromancers employed by the cult.
These altars are effectively fantasy Dark Web. It allows for conversations on necromancy, demonology, poison harvesting, and other topics of darker lore, as well as for the hiring of less ethical mercenaries and arrange unseemly acts that cannot be traced back to their originator.
The altar has a special function that allows for direct messaging to posters as well if they include an alias on their correspondence. You may, as an action, write a message to a specific individual and send it as per the Sending spell. The private message is sent as an envelope only available to that individual when they access any altar. They can respond in a similar fashion. The altar maintains charges so that individuals may send 1d4 sendings and the charges return at a rate of 1d3 per day.
These devices are very popular in certain wizardry guilds, assassin and thieves guilds with a scholarly or arcane bent, and can be specially enchanted for solo practitioners at a great price.
