Wyverns

"Any who rides a Wyvern becomes invincible... That's what they used to say before more people became able to launch actual pillars into the sky." Declaration from a retired Wyvern-Rider.
A rare nigh-extinct species of flying monsters. Wyverns are gigantic reptilian beast endowed with expanded leathery wings on their forearms. Their large weight and size impressively do not prevent them from taking to the air when given enough room to take speed. Their scales and bones are light weight, enabling them to carry passengers and items over great distances. That is, once they have been properly tamed.   Wyvern were historically used by Demon Tamers during the Conquest. They were riden by elite warriors, protected via mana barriers, and could bombard troops from above. An overelliance on them led to multiple instances of casualties when facing greatly protected strongholds, while encounters with Hero-class opponents ended in disaster for the Wyvern-Riding corps. One can also note the many troubles in the later days of the Conquest. Nowadays, they are a protected species with few nests around the higher lands of the Verdant steps and the temperate Eastern part of Blunter.
