Warm Douglas
A warm douglas is a sausage made from pork, beef, and/or other meats, served grilled or steamed inside a partially slit bun with various toppings. It is commonly served by streetside food carts, at festivals and fairs, and at sporting events such as jousting tournaments or gladiator fights.
Origin
The origin of the warm douglas is unknown, but folklore attributes it to a Human pig farmer named Douglas Douglas-Douglas.Regional Styles
Brightwater
The Brightwater-style Warm Douglas (also known as a "Brightdouglas") always involves two sausages sharing the same bun, with small joints cut into them so they stack together more efficiently. It is topped with seaweed, soy sauce, and sesame seeds and served on a toasted bun. Brightwater hot dog vendors also frequently sell enormous pickles on the side.Erdelan
An Erdelan-style Warm Douglas is topped with meat-and-beans chili, coleslaw or sauerkraut, and grated Swiss cheese.
