Dwarven Witchlight

A dwarven witchlight is a type of enchanted perpetual light first invented in Dvargard and widely used throughout Erdelan. It is easily recognizable by the reddish-orange color of its light.   To make a dwarven witchlight, artificers carve mystic runes derived from dwarven and draconic script into specially prepared slate tablets. They then ensconce the tablets in bronze cages for protection and longevity. The patterns activate a perpetual chemical reaction between the bronze and the slate that produces a strong reddish-orange glow. Dwarven witchlights are slightly warm to the touch, but cannot burn or ignite a fire. They shed light as effectively as a standard torch, and last for roughly 75-100 years before losing their luminence and needing to be replaced. Occasionally, they last much longer than this, though the reason for this is unknown. One dwarven witchlight in Kortrebakh-Fjälbass has been burning for 437 years, with no apparent reduction in its effectiveness.
