Djocossóco

Djocossóco, occasionally called merryfruit or loopyfruit, is the fruit of the Merrywort plant. It is notable for its rich flavor, its brilliant pink color, and its hallucinogenic properties.   Djocossóco fruit grow between mid-June and late July. When ripe, they are candy-pink and incredibly fragrant, with a scent often compared to vanilla and passionfruit. They grow to roughly 1.5-2" in diameter. The outside skin of the fruit is firm and somewhat fuzzy; the soft "fluff" on the outer plant is its seeds, which spread by brushing off against passing creatures or via the feces of those who consume them. The interior of the fruit is a creamy yellow with a custard-like consistency and a strong, sweet taste.   Eating djocossóco causes strong hallucinations almost immediately, mostly of a visual nature (though auditory and olfactory hallucinations are also common). The immediate onset is disorienting and occasionally unpleasant, though hallucinations are rarely particularly upsetting in nature. These hallucinations also decouple one's sense of time from reality. Its effects wear off completely within six to eight hours of consumption, though those who have experienced it report that this time period feels like no more than an hour. Consuming larger quantities of djocossóco induces euphoria and feelings of grandiosity.   Djocossóco is mildly addictive, though it is as yet unclear whether this is a physical addiction to the substance itself or a response to the pleasant effects of the fruit. Chronic consumption of djocossóco appears to permanently change how the body and mind experience time. Possible symptoms include slowed heartrate, low blood pressure, dizziness, lethargy, and noticeably slower speech and movements. Over time, too much djocossóco causes a person to lose the ability to estimate or keep track of time altogether.
