Cave of the Banished Scholars

The Cave of the Banished Scholars was the hidden exile community and ultimate final resting place of the Order of the Banished Scholars.

History

The cave that would later become the Cave of the Banished Scholars began as a Deep Ruby mine. The miners soon dug too deep, and miners began disappearing on the job in worrying numbers. Rumors of strange creatures and toxic sludge began to spread among the company of miners until the mine was shut down in Y847. With work halted, nearby villages soon became abandoned, and the mine was left untouched for many years.
The mine sat vacant until the expulsion of the Order of the Banished Scholars from Cape Hildegard in Y924. They excavated the cave and created a complex underground society, believed to have upwards of 300 members at its peak.
By the late Y960s, villages within a day's walk of the mine began reporting strange figures appearing from the mine's general direction, all wearing the blue robes of the Order of the Banished Scholars. Some were warped beyond recognition as humanoid; others stalked the countryside and hungered for humanoid flesh.
