Battle of the Black Keep
The Battle of the Black Keep was a fight between the Lich King of the Black Keep and the Heroes of Brightwater that ended in the death of the Lich King and the destruction of his keep.
The Conflict
Prelude
The night before the battle, the bard Figaro pretended to double-cross the lich king, singing songs of his greatness until he was lulled into a stupor and subsequently bound and temporarily trapped in a demiplane by the cleric Susanna. Meanwhile, the rogue Gepopo snuck into the Black Keep, stole the lich king's soul crucible, and destroyed it, making him vulnerable to being killed.
Deployment
When the lich king finally escaped his prison and realized his soul crucible was destroyed, he immediately sent his armies of undead after the Heroes of Brightwater. They fought off the armies successfully with the help of the Commonwealth Rangers and reduced the keep to rubble.
Battlefield
The final showdown between the lich king and the heroes took place in the courtyard of the then-ruined keep.
The Engagement
The severely weakened lich king nonetheless fought back viciously against the heroes. He killed Susanna with a powerful spell; the wizard Lucretia Britt, who tried to stop the spell from hitting Susanna, was also either killed or banished (accounts vary). After this, Figaro lobbed a single insult at the lich that caused him to crumble into dust. The insult itself has never been recorded.
