Órenyata
An órenyata (Elvish, "heart mark") is an accessory that a heartbroken Elvish suitor might wear to mark a mourning period after the end of a relationship. It is traditionally worn on the right wrist, right forearm, and/or right sleeve (to contrast with the absence of the engagement ring, worn on the right pinky finger).
The órenyata is typically red or pink, but can otherwise take many forms: a kerchief, armband, or contrasting sleeve cuff, for instance. Since symmetry is valued so highly in beauty standards, even a small detail—like red stitching along one sleeve, or the replacement of one stone in a matching pair of bracelets with a garnet—can stand out as an órenyata in high society.
The expression "to wear one's heart on one's sleeve" is of wood elven origin, and refers to the órenyata.
