Drow Horn
The horns of the Drow are used to communicate across large distances in The Places Below. Users of the horn system create a code of low-pitched short, medium, and long blasts which can be lower or upper pitched to communicate brief messages. The protocol of these blasts is quite complex, allowing the specification of intended audience, and a great deal of information. Learning the codes of the horns can take a drow many years. Those that receive a message not intended for them are expected by users of the system to repeat the message, allowing it to echo and propagate a great distance under the continent.
In 1192, the drow horn system was hijacked by The Call, in an incident that undermined trust in the horn system. Despite this, it still sees use in the modern day, albeit reduced.
