UNITY Mine

The UNITY Mine is a deep mine shaft located underneath the city of New Orleans; constructed sometime after the failure to ratify SODOM. In it was a clause that would have shuttered the Deepcore Foundation's mining operations in metropolitan regions for safety reasons. Unfortunately, with the ratification failing; that was all the Deepcore Foundation needed to not only begin construction of various mines underneath major cities; but to finally get their hands into America's political system, which prevented another vote on SODOM.

Geography

There are five ways into the cavern inside of New Orleans, including the bunker that Adamska discovered in 1973. The three sub-entrances include a Deepcore Foundation warehouse located in the rural area on the town's outskirts, the destroyed office within the center of town, and within the French quarter underneath what used to be the St. Louis Cathedral. The main entrance is also located in the rural area outside of New Orleans, where a majority of the mining offices are located.   The cave itself goes 1092 m (3582 ft) underneath the ground; the ground and wall of the rock coarse. Lined along the rough walls are Depthmektal beams that used to hold the mine shaft up, along with extensive amounts of tracks for mine carts to travel along. Throughout the caves, especially as one gets closer and closer to the bottom of it, there are crystalline Edenite structures and minerals laid about throughout, with a lot of mining equipment sitting around. There are dozens of storage rooms containing various mining machinery, including Heavy-Duty Boring Drills, explosives, and the like.

History

Construction

The mine was established on May 18th, 1954, around two months after the vote for SODOM. It began with the construction of both the Deepcore Foundation regional office and the main facilities; both of which were met with city-wide protests and threats being mailed to Anderson Russo. The outrage grew as two construction workers were killed in accidents at the mining site, both of which were caused due to the lack of safety protocols and equipment on hand. Alas, construction was unhindered, with the office being completed on June 20th while the mines were ready on August 5th that same year. The bunker that was used for storing the company's more valuable possessions as well as rare minerals was built at the end of that same year, hidden away from prying eyes.

Troubles In New Orleans

Immediately, there was trouble as gases from deep within the caves would begin to seep into New Orleans, causing people to fall ill at random times in random places throughout the great city. Although Deepcore eventually started to pipe the gases out of the cave and to a distant locale, the environment around where they were being pumped out of slowly began to fall apart, a toxic smog forming in the air and plant-life becoming a sickly brown. A small accident that occurred at one point was a cave-in underneath the St. Louis Cathedral, killing four and wounding three. While the church itself was fine, there was a fair amount of damage that had to be repaired; with the Deepcore Foundation taking the opportunity to create an emergency entrance and exit at the cathedral. The death toll would steadily rise throughout the next five years, before the first major accident occurred.   On March 4th, 1959; a portion of the mine collapsed. On its own it would be bad enough, but when the mine collapsed, it triggered a minor quake that sunk the incorporated city of Kenner into the ground. The casualties were in the hundreds with thousands wounded. People stormed the offices and razed the building inside and out, with the mine shutting down for a few months. Not helping matters was how the Deepcore Foundation responded, with an apology that lacked any sincerity or guilt being broadcast. Despite the pleas of many to shut the mines down, they would open it right back up at the beginning of 1960.

Before World War III

In the three months before World War III began on October 25th, 1962; the mine would run into more and more trouble as the global pushback against the Deepcore Foundation grew. This included miners not showing up, or even being threatened and beaten for going to the company's mine. At one point in October, there was a bombing that occurred at the warehouse; decimating around half of the building.

After World War III

In the years after World War III, the mine had been forgotten about for a long while, up until the Searcher Adamska discovered the bunker that had been hidden away for so long. Occasionally, a section of the mine will collapse once again, taking a chunk of New Orleans down with it. As of the current date, January 3rd, 2020; over 50% of the town has sunk.

Really interesting history to this place - seems as though it has been a little plagued with disasters.

The history I wrote with this is what I was most happy with, glad you like it! Food for thought: The opening to this implies that similar mines were opened up in other parts of America. Imagine how terrible those cities might've had it before the world froze over.
