Depthmektal Material in OmniVerse | World Anvil

Depthmektal

Depthmektal is a specialized metal created by the Deepcore Foundation for use in its technology, machinery, and structures. Acting as a super-form of Steel, Depthmektal has seen widespread use throughout the entire world; creating structures that can survive nuclear blasts, earthquakes, and the like.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Depthmektal has a silver-blueish shine to it when it's straightened out to length, faint streams of strange, magical energy flowing through it. When it's melted down, the molten metal has a brilliant blue glow that replaces the hot red and yellows of ordinary melted metals.

Physical & Chemical Properties

There's a faint, almost electrifying touch to the material when your hand is brushed up against it, not enough to hurt someone or make them pull their arm back in shock. It's an effect comparable to that when you press your hand up against a plasma globe. When it's solid, it tends to be cold to the touch. Meanwhile, its durability is rather high, allowing it to sustain stresses of several thousand pounds on it; which has come in handy for supports for specialized buildings and mine shafts. It's resistant to corrosion, staining, and rust as well; allowing it to last longer in the elements.

Compounds

Along with the alloy and carbon that goes into regular steel and the 11% chromium that makes it resistant to the elements, there are three essential ingredients that are added to further its strength. The first two ingredients added are Tungsten and Magnetite, mixed in with the other elements as it's put in a heavy-duty smelter. Once it's all combined, the mix of metals is given a large amount of Edenite, enhancing it further and giving it a heavier amount of durability.

Life & Expiration

Usually, as long as Depthmektal is kept in good condition, it can last a good long time, up to one hundred years; even! Unfortunately, due to the harsh conditions that the steel is used in, including their mines and the facilities located in jungle-infested regions; and the fact that some Deepcore Foundation locations tend to be rather lax about how they are to store the metals, there have been occasions where the metal would have to be replaced in a time span ranging from fifty to seventy-five years.

History & Usage

History

Conceptualization for Depthmektal began in the 1910s after the money the Deepcore Foundation had obtained skyrocketed, allowing their influence and spread to grow. Technology of all sorts had been steadily advancing thanks to them, resulting in more and more inventions becoming realized earlier than some would have expected. Around this time, realizing that the company would need the strongest material possible to be able to handle their mining operations deep underground, the best scientists that money could buy were hired by Deepcore to research a powerful type of metal that uses the Edenite and the recently-discovered Magnetite.   Come 1925, the first load of Depthmektal was created, which was tested in the California region where earthquakes tend to happen. After much experimentation and live tests with actual earthquakes, it was seen as a rousing success; with the metal being quickly adopted by not just a majority of the Deepcore Foundation's operations, but by those who have decided to use the metal for themselves. Nowadays, it can be found everywhere throughout the world; suspending various long super-bridges that span over lakes and tall buildings reaching high into the sky.

A timeline, frozen over and destroyed...

In the frozen wasteland, the usage of Depthmektal could be found in the various weaponry that had been given a massive boost in development after the failure of the SODOM ratification; and in the various mines that were constructed underneath various metropolitan areas by the Deepcore Foundation, including the UNITY Mine in New Orleans. After World War III, however, there was suddenly no one around to be able to manage the upkeep of these metals. As a result, throughout the world where the Depthmektal is used, the structures that have survived the frozen nuclear war have fallen apart in the 50 years afterward. Some people within The Refounded speculate that come the 2030s, whatever structures or supports using the material will have collapsed. This will result in the various ruined cities, such as New Orleans & Atlanta, sinking deep into the ground; never to be seen again.

I really like the idea that touching the metal is kind of like touching a plasma ball. That's a really cool detail. This whole article is really interesting - you've obviously thought a lot about this! :D

Thank you so much :D I figured that having the metal show off some faint side effects from the combination of various materials within it would be a nice touch!
