Iva, Goddess of Justice (eye-vuh)

Goddess of Justice Ive

An innocent man sits in a courtroom. Before him sits the magistrate, ready to deliver the verdict. The man prays to Iva, that she may see his heart and know his innocence. The magistrate prays too, that the verdict he is about to reveal is correct and true, that he isn't about to let a killer free. Iva smiles down, knowing that justice is being done.   A thief runs from the town guards, leaping over carts and ducking between crowds. He approaches the bridge, knowing that on its other side, he'll be safe. Knowing that the thugs and toughs that he grew up around would be more than enough to deter the guards. A street away, a man kicks a rock, becoming a tool for Iva's justice without even knowing. That rock sticks under the wheel of a cart, which has a single cabbage roll from atop it. The cabbage flies down the street, eventually colliding with a pile of lumber, leaning against a scaffold. One piece of the wood falls, landing just before the thief, and he trips upon it. Iva smiles as the guards catch him.

Divine Domains

Iva is the goddess of all justice, from that decided within a courtroom, to that dealt on the streets. Iva is the goddess of law enforcement, and the lawmakers themselves. She is the goddess to be thanked when good deeds lead to good fortune, and the one to be cursed when an evil person's luck finally runs out. From laws to karma, Iva is the goddess of ensuring that both good and evil get their just desserts.

Artifacts

The artifact of Iva is a set of scales, which are said to weigh the totality of person's soul: what they have done and what they have left undone, every action that they have taken, and every action that they will take. This artifact, known as The Goddess Scales, is currently under the possession of the Magistrates Guild of Albion. Everyone who seeks to become a magistrate in Albion must join the guild, submitting to have their soul weighted as part of the process. Only those who are found to be good can gain entrance into the guild, and become a magistrate or judge. Those who are found lacking are often the victim of a tragic accident soo after.   Many magistrates and judges from the neighboring countries - Airdan, Dobright, and even some from Hanessia - will often seek to have their soul weighed, as proof that they deserve their station.
