The Ribcage

A series of islands that form strips along the northern coast of Oracesis and the southern portion of Silandriir. These islands are rocky, fierce, and most uninhabited. The southernmost of the "ribs" is controled and ruled by the Dukata of Syracae, serving as a location for which to harvest timber, fish, and construct ships. Most likely created by tectonic activty from ancient times, the islands are long strips of jagged rocky land off the coast of Czerelan in the Aetisian Ocean, in what is referred to as the Gulf of Rhinakhatos.   After the war of Anrinates, the islands were designated as a region of importance. The Kingdom of Ardocia claimed the northern isle of Saktor. Due to the distance between the Ardocian homeland and the island of Saktor, it stands as a wild frontier in Ardocia, with a trade port, some small villages, and a few fortresses to hold the region with the iron grip of Ardocian men-at-arms.   In the last 20 years, the foundation of Dreamer's Haven has introduced yet another player in this small archipelago. Born upon the coast of The Ribcage and near the island of Theri. This small town has grown exponentially over the 20 years since it's founding, become a trading partner to those going along the Aetisian Route. However, tensions between Dreamer's Haven and the much larger and more powerful realms of the Dukata of Syracae have added stress to the region. More ships patrol and agents sent by both sides try to pull the wool over the other realm, while also trying to avoid war.

Geography

The Ribcage rests upon the western shoreline of Czerelan, placed firmly upon the Aetisian Ocean. It is made of five primary islands and several groups of smaller islands that all form rows in the deep, cerulean waters. Between each island or small archipelago, a long channel of water seperates each one. These channels help shape the rows that give them the appearance of ribs. These islands are rocky strips of land with high cliffs, strings of small mountains, and steep hills.   The southernmost island, known as Akrinae, is just north of the peninsula is the largest of the islands. The southern coastline of Akrinae is host to tall cliffs with forests watching over the shore, the north side is a wide wetland and swamp, dotted with willows and pockmarked with lakes and waterways. Unlike Akrinae's cousin islands to the north, it is primarily a single island that forms the southernmost rib of the set, except for a single island that rests between Akrinae and the islands of Phane and Kalsir. This smaller island is known as Hatris and is quite small, being less than 45 kilometres wide.   To the north of Akrinae, are the cousin islands of Phane and Theri. These islands form one of the middle ribs of the Ribcage. The smaller island of Phane rests to the west, further from shore and covered in hills and wetlands. The isle of Theri lies to the east, being wider and closer to the mainland. There are a number of other islands that sit in the rough waters. Between them lies a pass known as the teeth. Spires of stone jutting out of the angry sea that provide treacherous passage to the inexperienced. Many ships have been claimed by the teeth as brave or foolish captains seek a timely shortcut.   To the north of the isles of Phane and Theri, a wide archipelago of tiny islands forming the third row is known as Katagmaisca, or the Fractured Isles. These tiny islands form the third row and are primarily made of stony table islands and cliffs jutting from the ocean surface. Originally it comes from the old Dwarvish word for fracture, due to the fact that if the other islands are bones, this row is only fragments left from a break.   The last two islands that rest to the north of Katagmaisca are the islands of Saktor and Clain. The long island of Saktor lies to the west with another channel seperating it from the shorter, egg shaped island of Clain.
