Hegalarru
A figure climbs among a cave way and watches a Kazakeros patrol move past. He notes their weapons, their numbers, and the direction they are headed before slinking off with incredible speed in utter silence. The figure does not retreat but goes through a secret cave within the rocks that leads further along the path. If he can make it in time, he can tell his Urzenruach allies that the enemy is coming and their ambush will cripple this patrol. His tongue makes a series of clicks along his teeth and his large ears catch the soundwaves as they bounce off the cave walls. He leaps from the wall safely and catches himself in flight with a pair of leathery wings.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Hegalarru are a humanoid race of bat-like folk living beneath the surface in a realm known as the Underdark. They have adapted to thrive in their enviroment, being able to cling to cave walls and see in incredibly dark enviroments.
Hegalarru are born with two legs and two arms, maintaining a humanoid skeletal frame. However, they have very unique arms for a humanoid species. Their arms have 7 sets of phalanges instead of the five you might find on a common human. Their hands have 4 shorter fingers that allow the tips of the arms to act as normal hands. They have three other sets of phalanges that are much longer connecting to the bottom of their large leathery wings. These phalanges act as a frame for the wing and allow for greater control.
They have a pair of highly sensitive ears that allow them to take in their surroundings by using echolocation. Their tongue can make a series of clicks that bounce off their surroundings that they can use to detect objects or creatures.
Growth Rate & Stages
Hegalarru usually take 14 years to reach adulthood and can live to be 90 or 100 years old. Due to their life underground, many don't survive to the later stages in their lives. However, proof exists of Hegalarru sages living to the ripe old age of 100, with one such example even reaching the age of 107.
Hegalarru are brought into the world as Hegalarru pups. Small creatures with no fur and covered in soft, wrinkly skin. Their eyes have not fully developed or opened so they are functionally blind until the age of 2. Their hearing develops during the time shortly after their birth as they get adjusted to their surroundings. After reaching two years of age, the eyes have developed enough and their eyelids can open and close, with vision becomeing a new sensation to the pup. They will then grow further, growing fur and getting more muscle mass around their arms and legs, growing taller and with stronger wings. Their wings are not strong enough to carry them at this point yet, so they most often cling to the belly of their parent until they are strong enough to fly.
Young Hegalarru are the late children and early teens of the race. They have fully grown their fur but it may change color. Their have reached between four to five feet in height, and are beginning to learn how to fly.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities
The Hegalarru are a race born underground and have evolved numerous capabilities to help them thrive in the dark evironment. Their hearing is spectacular, able to detect their surroundings by using echolocation. They also have splendid eyesight in the dark, able to see in complete darkness for a surprising distance. Due to their existance under the surface, the light of the world above ground is shocking to their senses, but once they get adjusted, they can see as easily as any other species.
