Drakizi

Born from the blood of great dragons. This sapient species shares the appearance of their Draconic ancestors, however their nature has changed drastically from their bloodline.
Borne of dragons that ruled and soared the skies of the Colossal Age world, this race of humanoid reptilians are a highly communal species. Their socieites are often close-knit and isolated from other species of mortals. Most Drakizi live in populated enclaves around the world. These enclaves are often cities or keeps filled with numerous Drakizi families. The origin of the Drakizi is unknown. The prevailing theory is that they were born as a mutation that slowly grew smaller among the dragon population. Another theory is that a numer of dragons were stripped of their power and size as punishment by their gods for their greed and violence.
Their history reveals a past of strict caste rules based upon the color of their scales. Those whose scales shone the brightest were considered the most pure, while those with ruddier colored scales were often considered lesser citizens. It was often found that those with the purest scales held an innate arcane ability. Their mastery of magic was superior to those of lesser castes, and thus the lower castes found themselves serving as laborers, soldiers, or slaves. This caste system was originally meant to instill a belief in Draconic purity and clan based pride. However, it instead lead to a history of inter-racial segregation, inbreeding, and dissent among those in the larger lower castes. While numerous enclaves still follow a semblance of this caste system, many other enclaves rebuke such ideas. Namely, those with heavy contact with other peoples hold more egalitarian ideals.
