Dworjin

Written by Brendan Gasparin

Dworjin (also known as dwarves) are short, hairy mounds of muscle, fat, and thick bones. They are known for beards and hard work: mining, stone-working, metalworking, engineering, gem-cutting, jewellery, and brewery. Many dworjin live in subterranean fortress cities or other underground communities, but some adapt to sunlight and live on the surface world.   Male dworjin usually wear long hair and beards for reasons related to culture, religion, and pride. Some female dworjin proudly wear beards, some shave, and some cannot grow beards. Female dworjin are extremely rare compared to male dworjin, with a 1:10 birth rate.   Dworjin hair colour ranges from black to brown to red to blond. Their skin colour can range from pale to a ruddy pink or red, brown, black, and even stone-grey. Dworjin stand between four and five feet in height, weight about 150 pounds, and live for three or four centuries.   Dworjin are creatures born from Subterraneom. They have darkvision that lets them see in low light or no light, and have an affinity with stone that makes them able masons, engineers, excavators, miners, and subterranean navigators.   Many dworjin share a common language, culture, and religion. The most popular god in the dworjin pantheon is Dweorj, a creator god said to live in the core of the planet.

Hill Dworjin

Hill dworjin are dworjin who, generations ago, left their mountain kingdoms to settle in the lowlands. Hill dworjin are more likely to build small communities than mountain dworjin, and their communities are often at least partially above ground. Hill dworjin are more likely than mountain dworjin to live amongst other races such as humans and gnomes.   Hill dworjin tend to have lighter skin and hair and are on average shorter than their mountain dworjin cousins.

Mountain Dworjin

Mountain dworjin are those dworjin who never left the underground kingdoms of their ancestors. Mountain dworjin are insular and have strong cultures and traditions. Their kingdoms are more likely to be built in mountains than lowlands.   Mountain dworjin tend to be a bit duskier of skin, have darker hair, and are taller than their hill dworjin cousins.
