Yrdul's Strike (Yer-dul's Strike)

rdul is the god of conflict and strife. They ascended to this title through their profane behaviour, and have since been known under this moniker. Indeed, some of the more superstitious folk of Olrion will not even mention the god by name, lest they attract their attention. Their strike upon the earth of Olrion unleashed untold horrors and evils, the effects of which are still being felt to this day.

The Buildup to the Strike

During the creation of Olrion, the gods divvied up roles based on their own particular aptitudes and interests. While the land was being formed, Yrdul took a back seat role. Conjoined with their twin, Mylaileen (later the god of love, beauty, sex, and pleasure), they grew restless with their relegation. Soon that restlessness transformed into fury.

Yrdul hatched a plan, which Mylaileen immediately disagreed with. Such was the power of their argument that the former tore away from the latter, severing their connection. Yrdul then lifted a mountain, struck Mylaileen over the head with it, and buried them beneath it.

The Strike and its Consequences

After doing away with Mylaileen, Yrdul decided to take revenge. They knew that Olrion was the favourite continent made by the other gods. It made the perfect target. Summoning all of their rage, Yrdul smashed a fist into it, cleaving it almost entirely into two and causing it to have its characteristic "U" shape. The Arigik mountains to the south of the continent shattered open in a thousand places, and out poured water that filled the newly created canyon, forming the Great River Ügensblüd (note that this is a popular misnomer, as it constitutes more of an inland sea).

This was only one of the physical effects of the strike. Shards of mountain pieces rained down onto the earth, suffused with Yrdul's anger and spite. As they hit the earth, they were transformed into the various daemons that now plague the other peoples of Olrion. Antagonistic towards other life in general, and often requiring violence against them to sustain their own lives, daemons began to cause carnage pretty much immediately.

The effects of Yrdul's strike were not solely physical, however. Their ferocity and hate-filled motives rolled out across the entirety of Olrion upon their fist hitting the ground, suffusing the continent with strife and conflict. War broke out, murders and other crimes against the person proliferated, and wanton destruction of the environment began. This would last for over a thousand years as the other gods clambered to capture Yrdul, who had now fled, and deal with the repercussions of their violence.
