GENERAL PLOTLINES

  • the story opens with Oliver's small birthday celebration. It's just him and his Aunt Fanny, but she's gone to great lengths to try and make it a memorable one for him
  • that night, when he finally climbs in to sleep, silently wishing that his parents were there with him, he stares at his gloved hand and reminisces on the fact that they died in a brutal car accident
  • that night when he sleeps, he dreams he gets invited to camp Gajah by Mr. Day. Just as they enter the clearing and the drawbridge lowers, Ollie wakes up
  • That day he feels out of sorts. He figures maybe he didn't sleep well because of the dream, and he feels really preoccupied with the dream all day
  • for some reason, he can't wait to go home and to go to bed early
  • he mentions the dream to his Aunt Fanny, who asks him a few seemingly innocent questions
  • when he says he's going to go up to his room, Aunt Fanny waits for him to leave, then makes her way into her study and pulls out an old book from inside her desk. She sits down and begins to flip through the pages, and then begins to read. At this point, we have no idea what the book is, or what it says. this is all to build tension, intrigue, and to foreshadow coming events
  • That night, Ollie has the camp Gajah dream again, but this time he actually meets a few characters, particularly Aron (going by Nora at this time she finds him, not the other way around, and she begins to help him tour the camp; this night he also meets Dan the elephant
  • when he wakes up, he's excited and engrossed by the dream
  • he runs downstairs to tell his aunt fanny that he had the dream again, but this time there were people that he met; he elaborates that the dream is so unlike any other dream he's ever had
  • Fanny asks him to go and get the mail, so he runs outside and finds a pamphlet for Camp Baldraithe
  • he takes it to Fanny and they go over it together; Ollie really wants to go, but Fanny is skeptical
  • she blames it on money, but inside she has a bad feeling about the camp
  • Every day after that when he goes to get the mail, there's another flyer for camp Baldraithe
  • Every night when he goes to sleep, he dreams about Camp Gajah, and has more and more adventures with Nora and Dan, and run ins with Baxter; he even begins to dream that he has special powers and can't seem to define the lines between dream and reality when he is awake
  • Finally, Fanny relents, and says that he can go for one week to see if he likes it
  • the following day, she drives him to camp Baldraithe
  • She insists on meeting with Tom Orrow, the camp director; even though she has a gut instinct that there's something wrong with the camp, she can't put her finger on it
  • Suddenly, Ollie expresses his reservations; camp baldraithe isn't really like camp gajah
  • Fanny tells him to be brave and strong, and to tough it out for a week
  • she also tells him that if he needs her for any reason he can call and she will come and get him right away
  • As he enters the camp, he meets Aron and Dan
  • he realizes the similarities between the two and their dream counterparts, and he feels much more at ease
  • As he gets settled into his camp, Tom Orrow comes to meet with him personally; he notices Ollie's hand and asks him about it; Ollie says that he was in a house fire when he was a child and that his hand has been burned with such severity that he has to wear the glove wherever he goes
  • Tom leaves it at that, and leaves Ollie to his business
  • As Ollie settles into the camp, he has a few run ins with Slaine and forms better friendships with Aron and Danaku
  • when he goes to sleep, he dreams of Nora, who urges him to try new things in Camp Gajah- he pushes himself to the limit inside his dreams, to the point where he's beginning to feel real power
  • But in the back of his mind, Yester Day is always lingering there, watching everything that happens
  • over the course of his days, Ollie begins to get an eerie feeling in the camp
  • he keeps an eye out for any changes, but nothing seems out of the ordinary
  • Despite being vigilant and attentive, the feeling of unease continues to grow
  • eventually, he addresses his feelings with Danaku and Aron, and while Danaku admits he has felt the same way, Aron denies the feeling
  • Ollie, who has grown to develop feelings for Aron/Nora through all of their day and dream moments together, feels that she isn't telling him something, but he doesn't know what or why she would lie to him
  • When he's awake, he has another run in with Slaine, who is picking on Danaku once more
  • His anger is pushed to the limit, and for the first time some of his power is used in his confrontation with Slaine
  • It's small, small enough that it makes him question if he even really did it, but deep down he knows that he did
  • that night in his dream Nora comes to him and encourages him to keep trying his powers. She divulges that he has a destiny, and it's time for him to step up to the plate and do what it takes to reach out and grab that destiny
  • he awakens feeling confused, but realizes it's the seventh day and Fanny will be coming to pick him up
  • by the time he goes outside, she's already there; he has to make a choice-leave with Fanny and put it all behind him, or stay at Camp Baldraithe to uncover if he really does have a destiny waiting there for him
  • He decides to stay, and when he returns for the duration of Camp, his abilities continue to grow
  • as his power grows, he becomes more of a target for Slaine, and their contentious relationship eventually comes to a head
  • the apex of the story is their final confrontation, when Ollie actually unleashes an undeniable amount of his power to defeat Slaine in a physical fight
  • this should be where book one wraps up; Ollie is kicked out of camp for fighting, as is Slaine, and despite the perceived unfairness of it, Fanny is relieved to come and get him
  • the very end of the book shows Tom Orrow transforming into Mulderaan and he can either monologue or discuss with an underling that he feels Ollie could be the next Endleofan; he confesses that getting him out of camp was a way that he could stop his powers from growing until he can confirm that Ollie is the next heir
  • this sets the story up nicely for you to continue the story on in book two; you can now incorporate:
  • the fact that even when no longer at camp, Ollie continues to dream of Nora and Dan and his powers continue to grow with their influence
  • that Mulderaan is out to gain more power, and explain what the Endleofan is/can do
  • that Aron is a dreamwalker/ Somniator and what her true purpose is
  • Fanny discovering that the camp is a front and Tom Orrow is actually Mulderaan
  •  Fanny divulging the truth about Ollie's parents to him, that they didn't die in a car crash but that they were tortured to death by Mulderaan in an attempt to find the next Endleofan
  • Ollie discovers that he is the next Endleofan and realizes he is the only one with enough power to stop Mulderaan
  • explore how he will stop Mulderaan with the help of his powerful friends
  • explain the idea of Somniators, alternate realities, powers growing at the age of 11, etc.
