Spellcrafting

The simple yet very technical practice of creating spell tomes, scrolls, and cards from basic arcane materials.     "Grand Wizard Chuuster Looked down onto her Inscription bench, carefully placing spell stones and Elemental stones into the arcane combination grid. upon placing the Blank card in the middle, the elements reacted violently, pooling into the conduit. "A Success!" Chuuster squeaked with joy; the spell card; Lightning vortex; Now overpowering above the table. It coursed with electrical energy, just waiting to be released."

Career

Qualifications

Only those with some understanding of magic can begin the long journey to becoming a spellcrafter. This includes Wizards, sorcerers, clerics, and warlocks (but not paladins).

Career Progression

In order to become a master spellcrafter; one must learn the basics. only by making spells of increased difficulty can one begin the ultimate step: creating entirely new tomes, scrolls, and even manipulate the very winds of magic to force new spells into being.

Payment & Reimbursement

The payment for this job depends on the level of spell item the Crafter can create. It is very much a retail-like business; as most other classes of hero and even commoners can use spell scrolls and cards (albeit to a more limited degree).

Other Benefits

Within spellcrafting, there are occasional contests and conventions where one might prove their skill and gain renown. the most popular involves the magical cards-in a game simply known as duel monsters. powerful wizards make decks of their spells and summons; and pit them against others in battle. the result is usually death for the loser, however.

Perception

Purpose

The Spellcrafter is usually a shopkeeper and general assistant of the town, creating spells helpful to townsfolk and adventurers alike. on the other hand; some powerful spellcrafters use their power for more brutal deeds.

Social Status

It is assumed that almost all spellcasters are also Spellcrafters, But in fact very few have the patience for it. Most enjoy the profession, as it is self-reliant and comes naturally to them. Non-wizards may indeed seek to become one, but they cannot if they possess no magical abilities.

History

In the Beginning; spell-crafting was mundane and mocked by many magic users. It was considered 'cheating', and only a fool would rely on paper to cast arcane spells. When the Great Cataclysm occurred however; Old Zenithas flooded with an abundance of new arcane materials from alternate realities, allowing spells nobody had ever seen before to be created.   Thus; Spellcrafting became popular almost overnight, with Mages clamouring to those they had previously bullied, in order to beg for the secrets of Spell-crafting. The original spellcrafters became instant celebrities as a result. fast forward many years, and Crafted spells are at an unbelievable level of demand and respect, but fewer mages exist now that are properly trained in the profession.

Operations

Tools

The only tool one really needs is a trusty Inscription bench, complete with arcane combination grid. some are more complex than others of course, but most consist of a 4-5 plinth tabletop for materials, and a centre slot for the spell 'container'.

Materials

There are a plethera of metails one can use for Spellcrafting. most commonly however, blank books; tomes, and cards are used as the container, and elemental imbued items serve as the power source. sometimes a quill is used to write the incantation, but is not always required.

Workplace

the workplace of a spellcrafter is usually buzzing with magical flux, and most of the furniture is made of magic resistant materials (for obvious reasons). depending on the spell, smells of sulphur, sea spray, or even blood might hang in the surrounding air.

Many, is the simple answer. miscasts are common among beginners, and many apprentices have perished trying to craft spells far beyond their level .
