Dream eaters are odd little beast-like creatures that almost entirely exist in the dreamlands, at least natively. They are split into two types; The cuddly spirits, and the malevolent nightmares. The former can be created using a bizzare form of alchemy known as dream synthesis. The latter are naturally hostile, but often leave behind the materials needed for the aforementioned alchemical synthesis. They are easily distinguised from one another in two ways. one: theier fleur-de-lis like heart symbol is pink for a spirit, and violet/black for a nightmare. two: Spirits have pastel colours, wheras nightmares tend to have darker colouration-with the exception of rare nightmares, which usually have 1 or more neon colours.

Anatomy
They vary wildly in shape and size, but tend to be vaguely reministcant of beasts.
Genetics and Reproduction
Nightmares propogate themselves by planting bad dreams into victims (usually humanoids) to generate more nightmarish monsters from them. Spirits can only be synthesised.
Growth Rate & Stages
Some dream eaters of both kinds are capable of evolving into stronger forms, and some may even grow drastically in size to become a 'giant' variant.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Spirits eat bad dreams, hence the genus name. Nightmares feed off of fear.

Facial characteristics
Interestingly, spirits raised in different ways will have different personalities. This causes the shape and colour of thier irises to change.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Most nightmares have some form of darkvision. Most spirits have the ability to sense the prescence of nightmare dream eaters.
