Humans are considered the "standard" for humanoid races (big surprise there), as they seem to exist somewhere between each of the other major races. While most races have great stories of their origins, humans just are, and seemingly always have been. What's more, they inhabit varied climates with varied cultures, arguably making them the most "common" of the races.
