Firbolg
Existing in an odd place between jotnar and fey, the firbolg are a race of gentle giants and silent protectors. Living in secluded villages across the world, firbolg work alongside the druidic circles of Genaeth to keep it in balance and preserve natural order. This makes them very rare in most civilized areas, as they prefer the wilder portions of the world.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Firbolg have the standard humanoid body, with the standard number of eyes and limbs. They have a thin coat of fur around their entire body, with facial and head hair growing longer and darker. Their arms and legs tend to be slightly longer than normal, and the vast majority of firbolg tower above humans.
Genetics and Reproduction
Firbolg reproduce like most humanoids, with pregnancies lasting twelve months.
Growth Rate & Stages
Firbolg mature slower than humans, with most villages considering their children mature at the age of thirty winters. After this, they can live for centuries before dying of natural causes, though most pass away long before this time occurs.
Ecology and Habitats
Given their natural inclinations, most firbolg live in temperate areas of nature. They are noticeably less common in hot areas like deserts, though a few villages still exist.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Despite being omnivorous, a good deal of firbolg avoid eating large amounts of meat so as to not infringe on any species near their home.
Additional Information
Facial characteristics
Most firbolg have broad features, with cow-like or deer-like noses and large brows. Their ears are similar in form, with most being able to move them intentionally or as an expression. Their "manes" are usually dark and uncut, with men being able to grow ample amounts of facial hair.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
While they exist all across Genaeth, firbolg villages tend to be more common in temperate or cold areas.
Average Intelligence
Given their very rural locations and preference towards simple wisdom, it is rare for firbolg to have vast intelligences. Beyond this, they can have any level of intelligence imaginable.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Firbolg lack many of the improved senses of fey and fey-kin, making them comparable to humans with most senses. As for magic, all firbolg have limited access to druidic spells and abilities, allowing them to communicate with beasts or briefly become invisible. It is for this reason that most firbolg magic users are either druids or nature-aligned clerics.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
Most firbolg have simple names, often taken from plants or local fauna. Surnames are considered unimportant, as villages are small enough that everyone knows everyone. In situations where a surname is necessary, they might use their villages name or a simple descriptor, such as Gentlepalm or Greentoe.
Major Organizations
While not solely firbolg in number, most firbolg are affiliated with at least one druidic circle near them.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Most firbolg have very lax connections with other races, due to their very solitary nature. In addition, they are unable to breed with most other races, making such relationships all the more rare.
