Elf
Descendants of the spiritual fey, elves are creatures who value individual freedom and goodwill above all else. Their laws tend to be lax, but they make up for it by constantly seeking out adventure and change wherever it may be. Fewer races have ever had so many paragons, but few have also produced so many renegades.
Basic Information
Genetics and Reproduction
Standard humanoid copulation, but gestation period lasts around 2 years.
Growth Rate & Stages
Elves age very slowly, with most not being considered adults until the age of 100. However, they can live well over 500 years, with the oldest elves living into the 700's.
Ecology and Habitats
Most elves live in temperate climates, with forests and coastlines being their favorite places to live. Their home island of Patrimais is almost entirely like this, and that is why the vast majority of pure-blooded elves live there.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Elves are omnivorous, but their choice of diet can vary wildly.
Additional Information
Facial characteristics
Elves have slender features, with sharp chins and small noses being common. All do not grow large amounts of facial hair, with the largest elven beard being comparable to a teenage human's peach-fuzz. All elves also have noticeably large ears, with longer ears denoting purer bloodlines.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
The vast majority of elves are on Patrimais, but they also exist in fair amounts in Curais and southern Jonia.
Average Intelligence
Due to their great education systems and extensive access to time, most elves are either in the standard grouping or slightly above it. It is fairly rare for an elf to have a negative intelligence.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Elves boast senses greater than most other creatures, with hearing and sight better than most other races. This includes their effective darkvision out to 60 feet.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
Elven names are usually melodic and smooth, with very few having harsh tones or syllables. Male and female names are functionally the same, though only male names usually end with -is or -as. As for surnames, all elves have a familial name that they use to identify. Upon marriage, either spouse may choose to take the other's name, or both may choose a new name. These names are traditionally in elven, but may be translated to common when dealing with other races. For example, an elf may call herself Aethis d'Cielmont among other elves, but may go by Aethis Skymantle or Mantle-of-the-Sky among others.
Gender Ideals
Elves are fully inclusive in regards to gender. There are no societal roles save for birthing a child (for obvious reasons), and elven society fully welcomes the idea of non-binary genders, though that does not make them incredibly common.
Relationship Ideals
Elven relationships can take any form conceivable, with their society not being biased towards male+female bonds.
Major Language Groups and Dialects
All elves speak Elven, though many learn additional languages if they live near other races, or take one of the many language courses offered in their homes.
Historical Figures
Saint Corella: Deity-queen of the elves, Saint Corella of Verandra represents all the free-loving and equality-minded ideals common to the elves, whom she has lead for many centuries now. While she has been present for many of the elves greatest feats, she has also been there for many of their greatest woes, and has carried both throughout the years. While not in Patrimais, she can be found in the holy city of Drea, where the sole temple to Verandra exists.
Saint Viata: Saint of Shellone, Viata serves as a constant reminder of the duty many elves serve after their eventual deaths. She is the leader of the the fey spirits who ferry souls from the mortal realm to the reflective places where they are judged and assigned to the afterlife. This duty makes her one of the saints who spends the least amount of time on Genaeth, as she is found on Domroth or the Shadewastes far more often.
Lady Iilvana Inaafren: Well known adventurer and hero-errant, Lady Iilvana is considered one of the most notable Curasian heroines of the recent decades. After running with a rather uncouth party known as the Eraai for several years, she went on to combat draconic and orcish threats from Ceruleon to the Bay of Caern, eventually going on to form her own adventurers guild and take part in a number of turv wars in the Gemini Highlands. She was accompanied by her blinkdog companion, Yorak, and wielded a masterwork arcanlock called Caern'tharn.
The Ilandreux Family: boisterous lad whose rampant thefts left him on the bad side of his kin, resulting in his being sent to a large prison known as Fort Aegis.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Many elder elven families promote pure bloodlines, but the vast majority of families wish for their children to simply follow their hearts and form relationships with whoever they feel the most comfortable being with.
