The Dawn Machine Building / Landmark in Old Echo | World Anvil

The Dawn Machine

The Dawn Machine is a large machine-like "lighthouse" located in the far east Echo. A glowing orb provides light to the far east Echo, but the light has been known to cause a severe mental disorder known as Dawn Psychosis. To prevent this disorder from spreading, the human nations have established a blockade around the extent of the Dawn Machine's light.

Purpose / Function

The Dawn Machine is an large-scale light-creating artifact in the far east Echo. While it appears to have been created as an artificial sun, replacing the dead sun at the bottom of the Echo, its exact purpose has been lost to time.

Architecture

While the Dawn Machine is classified as a lighthouse by both humans and elves, it is not a building in the traditional sense. Accounts of the Dawn Machine's appearance are scarce and unreliable as the few humans who have returned from the machine have been affected by Dawn Psychosis. However the few reports are consistent in many details.
The Dawn Machine is a circular object approximately 20 miles in diameter and made of eight concentric rings. The rings appear to be equidistant from each other, and they orbit a giant glowing orb at the center of the circle. The central orb gives off a massive amount of light. The outer four rings appear to be made of a black metal while the inner four rings appear to be made of a light-colored metal.

History

The Dawn Machine was built long ago by the Lost Ones after the death of the original sun of the Echo, but other than that, the history of the Dawn Machine is unknown.
The elves have long avoided the far east Echo for unknown reasons, so humans were the first to find the Dawn Machine.
