Snap Stone

Photo my own.
Snap Stone, also known as a Glacial Gem, is a solidified, heat proof stone of what was once water.

Found amongst ice formations and appearing the same visually, this incredible stone is essentially ice that doesn't melt.

Only recently discovered, as ice and snowfall are rare in Olaga Avanoa, tests are being run in Gardeourne on the capabilities and longevity of the stones. It has been speculated that this could provide alternative storage and preservation options for food items, as well as many other potential uses.

History & Usage

Discovery

Recent discovery, by Mason Little while exploring the wilds of Skarpe Vast.

Mason, unsure of his discovery, sent word back to his father in Gardeourne and camped out while he waited for response. A raven came back asking him to wait there and put up a marker, Gardeourne would send across some explorers to join him and investigate further.

Hazards

Due to the intense cold that can be produced by one of these stones, it is not recommended to handle them with bare skin.

If there is any moisture on either surface touching, there is risk of cold burn, skin sticking to the stone and tearing of skin. Longer term exposure may lead to tissue damage, included gangrene.

Environmental Impact

It is currently unknown as to what environmental impact these stones may have, but it is suspected that in the areas that were impacted by snow and ice, these will prolong these effects.

If this continues to produce more of these stones, this may cause the cold to grow and become the new norm for weather.

Alternatively, too much mining or removal of these stones could cause warming of an area, and the long-term impacts of this are yet unknown.

Reusability & Recycling

The stones appear to retain all their properties, but longer-term testing is required to confirm their longevity. It is suspected that if they lose their cooling properties, the stones would still be useful as building material.

Distribution

All known pieces currently on hold at Gardeourne while further investigations are underway, and security have been put in place at the source location.
