Mortimear

Mortimear, a large mining town full of adventurers, dwarfs, goblins and dark alleys. The town is built on ruins of something much older and constantly in need of monsters being cleared out of it's lands.

Government

The town is ruled by a Baroness, the title runs in the Noble Mortimear family and is always held by the Matriarchy of the noble family that owns the lands surrounding the town of Mortimear.

Defences

High stone walls surround the city, with several towers going along it, on top of the highest place inside the town walls the castle know as Mortimear Mansion is located.

Industry & Trade

Thanks to the fact the town is located in the middle of the canyon, there aren't many great places for farm lands, but there are plenty of minerals in the canyon and several mines are operating in the area, and more are being started every day. Mortimear mostly lives on the trade routes that pass through it from Grayport to the north, Night water to the south and Westhelm to the west. But thanks to the high amount of dwarfs in the city the town has a good reputation for high quality metalwork.   Most of the people in the Mortimear either work in the mines, forges, haul trade-gods around or the factories processing the various ores, minerals and materials of the town. A big chunk of the workforce are also artisans that work with metals, most of them are blacksmiths, weapon-smiths and the occasional gold and silversmith.

Infrastructure

Westburrow

The Western part of Mortimear, housing the majority of the elves in the city and human middle class of Mortimear. The War Lion Square sits in this area, but the Kreebix embassy, Shank Alley and Crows Nest all call the Westburrows home, with also having the gate towards the Orc Encampment leading straight into the Westburrows.

Arcanium

A enclosed part of Mortimear, with walls more designed to keep what is inside in there than keeping things outside away. In the middle of this area there is the famous Sparkhold, a giant 20 stories tall stone tower built by and for mages, with lighting and thunder striking the tower almost everyday.  

North Peak

The fancies part of Mortimear, with tall wooden building spiraling in weird shapes and architecture towards the sky setting just below the mountain housing Mortimear Mansion.  

Belltown

The most central part of Mortimear and where the Great Temple of Vantiz can be found, sounding the giant decorated adamantium bell that gives the area its iconic name.

The Sewers

The city was built on top of ruins and the old streets, cellars and passageways have been turned into sewers for the new town.  

Blast Furnace

The Fire Horns are a great blast furnaces constructed years ago, they deal with most of the ore processing Mortimear have and are constantly burning and chirping away all day and all night, pouring out more and more smoke and metal each day.

Guilds and Factions


The Arcane Academy of Hun

The Academy have for over a hundred years taught the rich, talented and lucky. Their long lasting magical traditions and several prominent students have provided them with a vast net of political, magical and economical power inside not just the town but also on the larger play board.  

Embassy of Kreebix

The lost human city of Kreebix sent just two years ago one of there tyrannical rulers sons and his entourage to Mortimear to help produce better relationships with the trading hub and also it's neighbors.  

Grayport Consortium

The Grayport Consortium is the largest merchant guild & company that exist in Mortimear, they have there hands in ever deal, caravan and transaction of mayor wealth going on in the city. Though rumors suspect them of being the front for one of the largest thieves guilds in Grayport, the Black Rooks, though all such rumors are founded in fantasies, cheap ale, drugs or paranoia.  

The Church of Vantiz

A branch of the Temple of Hecutus, and the main religious order of Mortimear, they focus there worship on three gods in specificly, Emperor King Hastiof and Bulraahn. There clerics can be seen daily, asking for patronage, performing cleansing rituals and blessing caravans as they journey out of the city. They are also the caretakers of the vast catacombs of the city.  

Gilbe-Dahl-Gut Warren

A large goblin warren that turned into a mercenary army and have been in service of the town for over a decade now, though some of there lower ranking "members" are just a dangerous as the bandits they are paid to keep out. They also have a large share in the mining operations around Mortimear, with more the two thirds of the know mines, beloning to them. There leader Krawn is a mysterious figure and rarely shows himself except when the monthly slave market sets up outside the walls and he offer up his children.  

The Golden Arrows

There roster is among one of the most diverse of all Adventures Guilds in the Empire and they attract all the odd ones and there doors are open to everyone. They only ask that each member is true to themselves and to their friends. There Guild hall is located in Belltown.  

The Blood Fangs

Once a mercenary company that recently decided to settle down and become a full-time adventures guild. The ask of nothing but strength, power and ambition from there members. There Guild hall is a cave located in the Gorge.  

The Steel Vanguards

Heroes of the common folk, defenders of the meek and slayers of evil, no guild have birthed so many heroes as like the Vanguards have. The guild welcomes anyone that will stand for justice and protect the weak. They have there Guild Hall in North peak, close to the Keepers Point.  

The Crows Nest

The guild is a mix ragtag group of mostly trackers, enforcers and hunters that are able to solve most problems for a price. A sharp mind, greed and loyalty is what the Nest requires from there members. There guildhall is located in the Westburrows close to the Kreebix embassy.  

Clan Markosh

A large orc clan that arrvied before winter and have started to settle outside around the town recently and in the main cause of the shanty town building up outside the town walls, their shamans preach daily outside the Church of Vantiz, several times garnishing the wrath of the priests inside. And chief Marghuz make daily trips to the Mansion and are often seen being allowed entrance. Rumors are they are trying to step in on the Warrens turf and steal their job as protectors of the town.  

The Council of Vontil

The council is the collected heads of all the dwarf families in town and they together speak for and represent there community in matters of work, politics, religion, judicial, war and burial matters. Though most dwarfs are craftsmen, they are still a key component in the inner workings of the town and this gives the council great power in matters that impact the dwarfs, and they are the sole reason the orcs have not been allowed to be given permanent residence inside the walls and are not shy about being public about it.  

The Shanks

One of the gangs running the underworld of Mortimear, there defining feature are special "shanks" they carry around that each member has to earn by attacking a town guard. They keep themselves to the neighborhoods in the northwest part of the town, dealing with smuggling, drugs, racketeering and violence.
