Murivis

The Murivis are an old native tribe who lived adjacent to the Thorilians in Ohm's middle continent. The feline Aesalega, cervine Rosalega, vulpine Zephalega, and canine Krystalega all originate from the Murivian tribe.   Before Thoril built over their homes, the Murivis lived happily in the natural reserves beyond the city's outskirts. They had never even met a Thorilian before the invasion. But when the Thorilians expanded their grand city across the middle continent, they burned down the forests and meadows to pave over native Murivian lands.

The native Murivis were forced into homelessness, and many were unable to feed their families. They no longer had access to the natural resources the continent had once provided. Without the coin or the means to leave Thoril, the Murivis experience chronic homelessness on the continent. Some find work and assimilate, often as servants or assistants in low-wage jobs or as street performers. Many, however, struggle to survive. You may find Murivis sleeping in alleyways or panhandling in the streets.

Desperate Murivis may become thieves, rogues, bandits, or worse. Even upstanding Murivis are often distrusted and treated unfairly due to their ethnicity.

If they are lucky, they may find a better job or flee the city, whether they stow away on a ship to Eiriel or scrape together enough coin (or hitch a ride) to cross the bridge into the lower continent. Murivis who successfully migrate into Lower Ohm often end up in Saram, Hatan, or Plessium and live fruitful lives. However, they are also a common target for Sarami sex trafficking. It is an unfortunate life for a Murivian who always has to be looking over their shoulder.

Ideals

Courtship Ideals

Murivis are often sexualized or objectified for their "exotic" appearance and are, therefore, discouraged from mating with a non-Murivian. Those outside the tribe who wish to court a Murivian must prove their worth and good intentions to the tribe or family before receiving their blessing. Conversely, one who indicates hostility, blatant prejudice, or ill intent will be shunned by the family and forbidden to wed.   Purity is also a value firmly held by the Murivis. While sexual relations before marriage are not forbidden, young Murivis are strongly advised to be especially mindful of to whom they give their body away.

Relationship Ideals

Honesty and respect are the most important ideals in Murivian relationships. For a relationship to be considered worthwhile, the Murivis must be completely devoted to one another and have a strong bond of trust. They are fiercely loyal and monogamous, which is why it is common for childhood friends to end up as married partners.

You've got a great start with this displaced ethnicity in your world! It's a shame that they don't have the means (yet?) to leave this place and find one of their own. Do you think they'll ever be able to?   Keep up the good work! :D
