Guardians of Devotion Session 11 Report
Old Paths, New People: Part 2
General Summary
The Blue Berry Gang picks up right where they left off at the end of last session, except, Flo vanishes and Jenkins_Secretary appears in their place. The party takes a moment to update Sec on what has been happening and to tell them about their newly acquired Goblin hostage, Bartleby.
As the party is sharing this information, Zaynathan notices their hostage enjoying the sock they've been gagged with and looking way too comfortable. Following an instruction to spit the sock out, the restrained goblin was all too happy to comply, then smiling, began yelling at the top of his lungs. From the bushes, an arrow struck JohnySlays. The party immediately takes defensive positions as they begin to discuss what should happen to the confident captive.
Johny's chat goes wild with "save Bartleby" and other such calls. The party decides that this Goblin must die. Only after it is agreed upon do any of the party question the morality of killing a restrained creature. Now in initiative, Zaynathan has no qualms and decapitates Bartleby as the Goblin gives one last arrogant smirk. The Goliath kicks the head into the bushes towards where the arrow shot comes from.
The party quickly dispatches the three Goblins hiding in the bushes and discover a wagon and horses who have been magically put to sleep. Jenkins_Secretary notices a small lizard that seems out of places and calls Thalia to come and investigate. Thalia comes to discover that the lizard's name is Fang and that he has a friend who needs help further into the cave. The party loots the dead that they were interested in, Zaynathan grabbing the snaggliest tooth from Bartleby's head, and make their way into the dark.
The Blue Berries come to a dank cavern with three wolves chained up and looking mean. And they see a figure, bound in chains in the back of the room. Seeing the figure, Fang scurries through the cavern and rests on the face of the captive. Thalia transforms into a wolf and proceeds to recruit the wolves to their cause. Zaynathan and JohnySlays free the wolves and the captive.
The captive introduces themselves as Scale, the owner of Fang, and a Dragonborn Wizard. The dogs and Scale note that there is a small opening at the back of the cave but that only one person can fit through at a time. JohnySlays, Zaynathan, and a wolf manage to get into position and launch a surprise attack at the Bugbear who appears to be the leader.
As the fight unfolds more players get into the next cave with Jenkins_Secretary and Scale, along with two wolves, hanging back. One of the formerly captive wolves is killed by Goblins on the other side of the cave. The party is furious as one of the wolves brothers leaps to attack the deeply wounded Bugbear. Sadly the animal is snatched out of the air and thrown to the ground after the Goblin leader drove a spear through Thalia, wounding them badly. JohnySlays runs to the hiding Goblins and succeeds in killing one of them in one motion, but is attacked by a strange creature who drops from the ceiling and attempts to wrap itself around his head. Johny is able avoid the grapple and the creature scurries off to hid on the ceiling amongst the stalactites.
The fight comes to a close when Thalia kills the Bugbear, eating his face, and then one of the recently freed wolves kills the last remaining Goblin. The party decides to complete a short rest and end the session here. Thalia completes a burial ritual for the deceased wolf and the whole party gets a Heroic Inspiration.
