Guardians of Devotion Session 05 Report
Songs of Sorrow at Dragon's Rest: Part 1
General Summary
The party heads out to Dragon's Rest, a small colony of mostly Kobold residents, to help with a strange phenomenon taking place in the area.
Chester sends the party out to Dragon's Rest, a small village on an out-of-the-way Island in the Spindrift Isles. In addition to helping Elder Runara with her problem, the party has been asked to make a good impression so that the Guardians of Devotion can "get their foot in the door" in that area.
The party ports onto the beach and the sense of peace and calm is immediately shattered by screams as they see civilians being attacked. Running to help, the Blue Berry Gang discovers that the attacking creatures are zombies! During the course of the battle, Thalia manages to eat the head of one zombie and fully devour the entire body of another while in her snake form. With the party being victorious, they are able to attend to the wounds of those the zombies had been attacking.
Tarak and Blepp expressed deep gratitude and brought them to their village, Dragon's Rest, and introduced them to their leader, Elder Runara. Runara thanks the party and explains that there are two items she needs help with: one is what is causing zombies to rise and attack the village? Two is why have ships been crashing more and more recently? The party agrees and after spending the night in the village, they head out towards the Compass Rose, the wreck that Runara suggested the party look at to get answers.
As a side note, Thalia recognized Runara as the woman from her dream several sessions ago, but didn't get the opportunity to pursue that information further.
Arriving at the wreck of the Compass Rose, Flo quickly identifies dark magic present in the depths of the ship. She works with Zaynathan and JonnySlays, having them foist her up into the air to check the eagle's nest of the ship. While airborne, Jenkins_Secretary casts Slow Fall which allows Flo to descend in truly cinematic form. While there is more than likely loot around, the Blue Berries decide to get right down to business and descend into the depths of the ship.
Below deck they encounter more undead and are able to dispatch them. The Detect Magic Spell continues to direct the party into the depths of the ship and they are able to bring up a chest which seems to fall from somewhere above them long ago. Opening the chest they find some very cool gear and a journal which explains the source of the zombie curse. Alathia Guilderoy, a sailor on the Compass Rose, made a dying plea to Orcus, the Prince of Undeath, to be able to be reunited with her husband no matter what. A talisman of her hair and her husband's hair and some finger bones are with the journal.
No sooner do the adventurers discover the truth behind the ongoing zombie attacks, then a large thump from above deck tells the party that something has returned.
The game is paused here until next time. What was that noise?
