The Reluctant Hunter

As presented by Rictavio in Vallaki within the Blue Water Inn
A tale of victory and tragedy. A tale of darkness and monsters. And a tale of why the greatest monster hunter began his profession, because he didn’t start out life believing in monsters let alone hunting them. Our tale began many moons ago within a land called Darkon, where a young lad who believed life was full of hope and dreams flourished. Many adventures he had with a young lass named Ingrid and then as a man he became a scholar and then a doctor of medicine. With success sprouting everywhere he touched, he married the lass who bore him a son named Erasmus. For more than a decade their lives were tranquil and idyllic, but then in Erasmus’s fourteenth year, the duplicitous and cruel Vistani came through town and stole Erasmus! Those vile villains sold this youth to Baron Metus in the darkest of nights. Fulfilling a vow to him by providing the son of the famous doctor in town. The Baron, a creature of shadow and death, bit Erasmus and turned him from the light of day forevermore. A spawn of satan this son became and when his father finally tracked him down, this son begged his father to free him from this torturous existence. His father complied by driving a stake through his own son’s heart. The Baron was enraged due to the loss of his servant and took revenge upon the good doctor by killing his wife. After burying his innocent wife, the doctor returned to the lair of Baron Metus and delivered a stake through his heart as well. This began the journey for the renown vampire hunter Doctor Rudolph Van Richten.
