A standard spellbook is a hefty tome containing a wide variety of spells for a magic user's reference.
A standard spell book can hold 100 pages worth of spells. Each spell takes up its level plus 0-5 (1d6 - 1) additional pages.

Physical Aspects of Standard Spell Books

The cover of a standard spell book is typically heavy leather--dragon hide or something similar--inlaid with metal so as to provide both extra durability and a means to close and secure the book. Vellum pages are sew together and secured to a fine, supple leather spine backing. Pages are secured additionaly by fine leather front and back pieces. It is also usual for such a tome to have vellum stubs at intervals for insertion of additional pages, although this by no means allows for any increase or change in the number and types of spells the book can contain.
Notwithstanding any special protections placed thereon, a standard spell book has a saving throw equal to that of "leather or book," and with a +2 to dice rolls made to save against acid, fireball, disintegration, and lightning attacks.

Spell Book Cost

The base cost of a standard spell book is 1,000 gp. This sum accounts for the cover and the binding. A newly created character that starts with a spell book will have a standard spell book with read magic, detect magic, and any additional spells known at level 1 automatically in their spell book. The level 1 wizard will not need to spend additional gold on the materials to add these spells to their spell book.
Materials (meaning the paper, ink, and quill) needed for each page costs 50 gp.

A standard spell book has a Gold Piece Sale Value of 1,000 gp per spell level.
