Session #37

General Summary

Session #37 Part 1 Recap: Barry Returns described most accurately by Shiloh the Buff
Shiloh, Delvin, Stu, and Gladys were having a jolly time at the Moathouse when they were greeted by Barry, the ware-bear who the guild had helped fight off cougars in the past. He came seeking help, for it appeared that he was being hunted simply for being a lycanthrope. We gathered some information from Barry and it turns out his hunter is a famous one by the name of Reginald Lloyd. Stu thinks he's heard of a knight or baron from Furyondy by that name, so we thought we might be dealing with a man of class.
The four of us followed Barry north for 3 days past Nulb toward his cabin, without much issue aside from a grouse wandering into camp at night. The group was impressed by Barry's fishing capabilities as he captured 8 fish and cleaned them in 3 strokes each. Upon arriving at his cabin, we were met with a surprise: Barry has a pregnant wife, Winnie! She took us all into a big group hug, potentially breaking some ribs in the process. She invited inside and made us a wonderful meal: soup with fish, shrooms, tubers and more! To add, Barry got out a container of delicate and lovely home-made mead. Stu sampled it and could tell it was finely crafted, containing hints of rose. Gladys suggested offering some of this fine mead to Reginald to show that Barry was not beast, but a man of finer things. Barry liked this idea and supplied us with another jug of it, albiet aged several years more. We spent the night in Barry's basement, bedding up with the bugs, and had a restful sleep.
The group awoke to the strong scent of meat and bread and found Winnie cooking up another storm. We devoured breakfast and began planning how we would go about finding this Reginald Lloyd. Shiloh took no time to suggest Gladys ride Faylafel into the sky and look for signs of an encampment. She took off and quickly returned, for the early morning forest was dense with mist; nothing could be seen from above.
The group decided to split up and look for any tracks that seemed out of the ordinary, leaving Barry behind so he was out of harms way. It wasn't long before all members of the group found tracks, however, Gladys' lead seemed the most promising. We cleaned ourselves up, secured the mead, and Winnie braided Delvin's beard (without boosting his charisma). We followed some horse hoof prints and eventually found a man who carried arrows which, in appearance, seemed similar to the one shot into Barry's cabin. He seemed a little startled when we announced that we were looking for a man named Reginald, but Gladys convinced him to lead us to him.
Upon meeting Reginald in his camp, Gladys explained that we were friends of Barry, to which Reginald seemed taken aback; he had never heard of people befriending monsters. Gladys tells him of Barry's good deeds and fine meads, to which the man took a sample. He agreed it was of fine quality and agreed to meet only if he could bring his men and anti-lycanthropy arrows. Gladys' 18 charisma failed to convince him to come unarmed, so off she went to find Barry and set up a neutral meeting area. While she was gone, Shiloh told Regi of his courageous tales of battle, and how he has lost friends and lovers alike deep within the ToEE. Shiloh's charm stirs something deep within Reginald, and he gives up his special arrows as a sign of trust during the meeting.
Eventually, Gladys comes back and tells us where the meeting spot it. Barry had picked a rocky area, one he could defend easily, and came equipped with a massive great axe, one whose heads dwarfed our own. The guild and Reginald's workers gave him and Barry some room so they could talk. We watched on as Reginald and Barry talked for what seemed like hours. Finally, Regi returned and seemed to be deep in thought. Shiloh returns his special arrows to him, to which Regi says "perhaps men are monsters, too."
Reginald awarded Shiloh one of his +3 arrows of slaying lycanthropes, one he crafted himself, for giving him the opportunity to speak with Barry. Shiloh thanked him for giving it a chance. Before leaving, Regi hoped that Shiloh wouldn't lose any more lovers in his war against evil.
The group went back to Barry's Bungalow, where we were all met with a happy, but emotional Winnie. She thanked us endlessly for saving him from the hunters. Barry then thanked us as well. Not only for saving him, but for saving his family. He was glad to have made friends like us that he could trust in times of need. Before guiding us back towards familiar territory, he awarded us with:
1 gold ear ring set with gems (3000 gp) 1 silver bracelet with gems (2000 gp) 1 silver necklace (1500 gp) and 1 silver and gold necklace (400 gp)
