Greyhawk 3: Chateau De Zagyg - The Second Coming of the Moathouse
General Summary
Taken from the Journal of Keric in Exile from the once Great Kingdom of Sterich
Having spent a considerable amount of time on the road with my guildmates, I found it time once more to go and see what the world had to offer. Recently the guild came across information on a Chateau that was held by some orcs and goblins, so i felt obliged to do some damage with my bastard sword. The paladin Miles, a recent halfling addition named Caramir, and I went to go deal with this "infestation" of these evils. The road was easy to travel as the Great city takes pride in making it safe to do so. We made quick time to the chateau. upon arriving we found a high vantage point to see the chateau and the surrounding land. From this vantage point we found no immediate signs of orcs or goblins, so we moved closer. once down by the building, I spotted tracks leading north. We decided to follow the tracks and after traveling about 2 hours north, we spotted smoke in the sky. I then used my ring of invisibility to scout ahead and found a full village of 30-40 goblins and 5-10ish orcs. Seeing as there were only three of us, we then decided to head back to the chataeu and see what there was over there. Coming from the north side of the property we saw an pool of water and multiple flayed bones of goblins. trying to stay away from the dead bones of the goblins we stumbled into an ambush by some giant frogs. After dispatching the frogs we searched all of the outbuildings on the property surprising 3 orcs and 5 goblins. after quickly dispatching these creatures we decided to finally check the chateau itself.
Finding that the front door was locked, we decided to break a window to get in. After Searching the house we found in order, a study with access to a sunroom, a dilapidated dining room, a full kitchen with access outside and a door that led downstairs, and a pretty bare library. It was the library that held a few secrets; one being that there is a magic book that wants to be read, and secondly there is a ghost sitting invisibly on the chair next to the book. The thing is that we didnt know it was a ghost until I tried to grab it. So we fled, but not before Caramir was aged by the ghost.
Upon returning to Greyhawk we stopped by that pompous aristocrat's Petrides home and let him know of the ghost as well as cashing in on the ears of the goblins we killed. Turns out the ghost may be the dead brother of Zagyg the Archmage. This may need more looking into before we begin to settle at the Chateau.
