Greyhawk 1: Penniless and Hopeful
General Summary
From the diary of Whipperwillow Wysterwind Whompenwood
I have found some new friends who are looking to see more of the world, like me! We, being myself, a strapping young halfling named Caramir, a whisp of an elf lad named Findere, and an apparent veteran boy of this Adventuring Guild, Miles. We entered the city (a rather uncomfortable series of exchanging of coin for scraps of paper stating we were allowed to find adventuring type work in the City of Greyhawk ... so much for free) and explored a bit. We wandered through a few bustling markets until we found an inn called the Silver Dragon, which was also near a Mercenary's Guild. Findere and I went into the Silver Dragon Inn to ask about different employment opportunities we might find. We went to the tavern on the second floor, meeting a great bear of a man named Olaf. He was quite handsome and kind to us. I would enjoy going back sometime, perhaps with a bit more coin to my name, since that seems important here. Learning little else of importance, we met back up with Caramir and Miles, who had found a common room available to us, if we so desired, free for a short time.
Needing to find work, we went to the Green Dragon Inn, which has a reputation as an adventurer's tavern and were delighted to find a quest board full of a variety of tasks people needed taken care of. We discovered a Count in the city needed a property of his cleared of goblins and orcs and was willing to pay 5 gold pieces per goblin ear retrieved. We met with the man in his overwhelmingly opulent manor and were given directions and permission to credit tolls and rooms to him as we investigate.
We made it to this chateau with little issue, however, as we approached the grounds, we were noticed by a group of goblins and orcs, who peppered us with arrows as we fled.
Thankfully, we escaped with only bumps and scrapes, and we trekked back to Greyhawk City to report to the rest of the guild, who were supposed to follow us to the City.
