Greyhawk 12: Dogs and Skunks
General Summary
From the scribblings of Skarrt Swizzer
I began the day looking into how one might gain entry to the University of Magical Arts. Luck—or perhaps fate—led me to a current student who was willing to share how he’d received his invitation. The student told me you must be invited and he would mention me to his teacher. Afterward, I headed to the Library of Greyhawk to research ghosts. Ever since our encounter with Nestor at the Chateau, I haven’t quite shaken the feeling that something followed us back. I read what I could about spirits and how they come to be. Some say a strong emotion is what anchors them. Others say unfinished business. I say both, and then some.
While walking through town later, I came across a street performer gathering quite the crowd. His name was Coup, and he was... enthusiastic, to say the least. We got to talking, and I invited him to join me on my next adventure. I figured the Guild might be interested in seeing what he could do.
We got sidetracked quickly.
I searched for any vendors who might sell blink dogs, asking around the markets. We didn’t find any, but Coup did buy two regular puppies. In the High Market we met a shopkeeper named Percy. He said he’d pay well for any blink dogs we might come across. He also had cheetahs for sale—5,000 gold each, far beyond our means.
Coup wanted to specially train the puppies for his performances, so we found a man named Damian who breeds and trains animals. He agreed to teach Coup, but only if we helped him with a problem first: a giant skunk had taken up residence in the woods nearby.
We hired a few mercenaries and went after the thing. It was a nasty fight. One of the hirelings was nearly killed, but I managed to stabilize him in time. My robes, however, were beyond saving—soaked in skunk spray and torn to pieces. Damian provided vinegar baths, which we had to endure for four days. Once we were somewhat presentable again, Coup began his training.
