Resources in Odyssey Earth

Resources (• to ••••••) Merit
This Merit measures your character’s material resources, both possessions and wealth. All characters with this merit are ones that have a job or a source of income that is sufficient to cover their basic needs: food, shelter and transportation. Dots in this Merit represent disposable income — wealth and assets that can be liquidated for more money in case of emergency. The number of dots indicates your character’s general level of wealth.

Resources can be used to determine if your character can reasonably afford a purchase or expenditure. Equipment, weapons and items throughout these rules are assigned prices and you can reasonably purchase items within your resource level

Your character’s Resources dots aren’t spent and don’t go away. They represent available cash at any given moment. The only means by which your character’s Resource dots might decrease is if story events conspire against them. Perhaps your character’s fortune is wiped out, he loses his job or his company is subjected to a hostile takeover. The Storyteller therefore influences how your character’s dots might decrease, and whether they can be salvaged.   ST Note: The resources merit must be justified by the player and approved by the STs.

One time Events

Through out the course of game there may be occasions where Characters earn money that is not part of the Resources Merit. Some examples include monetary gifts, one time jobs, or finding treasure troves. You can purchase things with your "temporary" Resources , but when they are gone you must find a way to get more. In order to make those dots permanent you must either hold a steady job of some sort or invest the money you have. You can have both resources, and temporary funds at the same time.

How to Make Temporary Resources Permanant

The following descirbes the manner in which a character may turn temporary resources into permanant resources, through opening an account with the Banker's Guild. Through depositing 5 times next dot Temporary Resources and waiting a number of months of Real Life Time equal to the Resources dot to be aquired, a character can then spend their experience to purchase that next dot of resources with ST approval. Characters will not be allowed to simply save thier "upsent" Resources for a month in hopes to grow their overall Resources merit; gaining the next stable level of the Resources merit requires additional captial that can only come from the invest of more Temporary Resources.   Example: Let's say Resources 1 gives you $100 in a savings account; two months later, that same $100 will not have incurred enough interest to stablize Resources 2 and would require additional capital in order to grow.   Please note that this is a simplified system, created in order to give players an additional aveune to gain and increase the Resources merit. It is not an invitation to disuss or argue interest rates, captial gains or any other such things. Any attempt to do so, will be met with my Venmo information and what my average hourly rate to figure out such things costs. When payment is received we can have that discussion.

CHART

Desired Resource LevelTemporary Resources NeededTime
1 5xLevel = 5 1 month
2 5xLevel = 10 2 month
3 5xLevel = 15 3 month

Please note that you may only gain uop to Resources 4 in this manner. (Not up for debate)
Each dot must be purchaseed and waited on in succession; no dumping a pile of money and attempting to subvert the system. (Also not up for debate)
Each Player is responsible for recording and justifying their Temporary and Permanant Resources.
