Mayrwych, The City Of Blossoms

Mayrwych, The City Of Blossoms is a city in the Realm Everlasting, and the seat of power of the Blooming Mead.   It is known for its welcoming atmosphere, beauty, and floral splendor. The magnificient gardens grow perpetually full in the ever-lasting spring.   It is governed by the Countess of Garlands.

Government

Mayrwych is governed by the central authority of the Countess of Garlands. She holds not only political power but also embodies the essence of the realm itself, as her emotions and desires shape the land itself.   A council of locals advises the Countess on the daily occurences within the city, while a council of representatives from across the Otherworld and even the mortal world meet monthly to share their wisdom.   Additionally, the Juniper Sherrifs act as the Countess' hidden eyes and ears in the world, gathering information with their questions, and then returning to the city to share what they have learned.   The city is governed by a high-level code of law which identifies several crimes which can be punished with exile, imprisonment, or death. The laws are not detailed, and so enforcement is largely dependent on the whims of the Countess. The five laws are:
  1. The Law of Harmony: Any action that disrupts the delicate balance and harmony of the city and its people is strictly forbidden. Examples of crimes against this law are destruction of property (especially flora), revelations of secrets, assault and murder.
  2. The Law of the Everlasting: Involvement, aiding or abetting, or otherwise consorting with denizens of the Neverlasting is forbidden. Unseelie folk present a clear and present danger to the beauty and light of The Everlasting
  3. The Law of Truth in Bloom: Along with the natural disinclination towards lying held by the fey folk, the Countess especially abhors falsehoods. Additionally, as the language of flowers is a deeply respected art, and communication using flowers is a valued tradition, and is central to Mayrwych's people and culture, the need for truth extends not just to words and oaths, but to flowers as well. This law prohibits the use of floriography in deceptive ways, as well as explicitly telling falsehoods in order to deceive or manipulate others. The Juniper Sheriffs ability to inhibit and detect lies are a common tool in enforcement of this law.
  4. The Law of Revelry: The city is known for its never-ending festivities, and celebrations are central to the county's seat of power. All citizens are encouraged to participate in these celebrations, and while refusal to partake without good reason may be considered an affront to the Countess herself, actively disrupting celebrations are explicitly forbidden under heavy penalty.
  5. The Law of Hospitality: All guests in Mayrwych are to be afforded the utmost care and protection, and hosts are entrusted with their well-being. This especially applies to members of the Court Everlasting. The traditional ritual of welcome should be performed for any travellers to the realm, and consists of a small gift or token of hospitality, and a share of food and drink.

Defences

Though the city carries the honour of being the most welcoming city in the Otherworld, it is not without protection and power.   The Rose Sentinels are expert warriors clad in shining armor who maintain peace and protect the city from external threats.   While from the outside, the city appears open to the elements, it is in fact surrounded by an invisible ever-shifting barrier of magic. The barrier is attuned to the intentions of sentient creatures approaching, and allows or repels them according to the whim of the Countess.

Infrastructure

Mayrwych is a maze of narrow white stone bridges, woven like threads over the root-like network of streams that wind their way through the city from the central spring atop which sits the Son Tws Myrelas, or Palace of Petals.   The streams are like translucent ribbons of water adorned with colourful petals that float gently on the surface. The architecture throughout the city is almost exclusively white stone and trimmed with gold accents. Towering spires and arched bridges intertwine with the natural landscape, where flowers of all shapes, sizes, and hues are carefully tended by the citizens of the city. Majestic trees provide shade and shelter, and mark important places, crossroads, and byways,   In moonlight, the entire city seems to glow, and small enchanted orbs of light, hover and dance along the the bridges and walkways at night like fireflies.

Districts

Because of the laws by which the city operates, there is little difference from one district to the next. The entire city is well-kept and well-appointed and travellers are welcome in any corner of the city.

Assets

Mayrwych holds much wealth, especially in the forms of magical supplies.   Many plants useful in arcana and medicine can be found within the city, and stores of harvested and prepared materials are available when needed.   Most of the other assets of the city are non-tangible, such as revelry, hospitality, and secrets.

Geography

Mayrwych is found close to the Dawnward edge of the Realm of The Everlasting. The Springs of Quintessence are typically within several days' travel, and it is thought that the spring that rises up beneath the Son Tws Myrelas which feeds the streams of the city is connected to the Quintessence.
