WorldEmber Pledge 2021

I pledge to produce 3k words towards worldbuilding in the month of December. More? Only maybe.
— V
WorldEmber is here! I have been sitting on this world for over a year without doing much with it outside of my brain-space yet, so I am excited to get started. As someone who is a chronic over-planner yet under-completer of lofty goals, I adore any challenge that pushes me to actually do.the.thing I'm supposed to do, without asking things that are beyond my flighty limits. When I saw the 10k goal, originally I was very much like '10k? I can do that no problem!' But this entire year has been a struggle for me, and I need time to rest and reset while also not halting all projects entirely. As such, I'm aiming for a much smaller 3k words. It's right in line with how much I feel capable of managing at this point in life, so I am ready to tackle this goal.

The Plan

Goal number 1:

Write at least 5 different articles for my newest project. Working title: Octopolis. Gonna use allllll the prompts to help me here.

Goal number 2:

Start planning out the intricacies of my society as a whole, possibly expanding out into a secondary, contrasting society.

Goal number 3:

Build out my world/ environment as motivation allows.

Goal number 4:

Accept my limits and be realistic. If I'm feeling good early in the month, I might allow myself to go as high as the 10k minimum pledge, but not above this. It's so easy to get swept up in the thrill of a challenge, but sometimes we need to keep focus on what is ideal for ourselves while still being able to appreciate the successes of others. I burn out easily, and right now I need to keep my workaholic self reeled in, with a strong focus on self-care and healthful living.

Prompt list for homework

I am choosing 5 prompts to align with my 5 article goal for WorldEmber. I am also considering articles for several different species in my world, so only some of these may end up completed.

1) Describe a ranking and structural system within one of your religions. -prompt by @Barbarossa#7361

2) Is there a place which is off-limits? Why? who is allowed in or around it? Prompt @liveandlearn#4004

3) Are there big class divides in your world? What caused this? #ethnicity #rankAndTitle prompt by @BasicDragon#2520

4) Write about a day that celebrates the youngsters living in your world. @BasicDragon#2520

5) Write about a fairy tale told to children in your world (WE prompt)

Bonus: An outsider/ someone who defies social expectations, and how people respond to them

Final thoughts

I am hoping to get set up for success as much as possible, including lots of planning and setting a few articles/ prompts up in advance over the course of the next two weeks. Good luck to everyone participating!

Thanks TJ! I’m not always very good about it, so I try to keep it at the forefront of my goals. I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone creates with their own goals ^_^
