Conquistador
"Santiago!" - the conquistador warcry
Conquistador is a term used to refer to the soldiers and explorers of the Spanish Empire or the Portuguese Empire. The conquistadors were professional warriors, using European tactics, firearms, and cavalry. Their units would often specialize in forms of combat that required long periods of training that were too costly for informal groups. Their armies were mostly composed of Iberian and other European soldiers who seek conquest in the land of Ocrea.
In Ocrea, these troops are easily recognizable on any Ocrean battlefield thanks to their European armor and the red and white flag they march under. They wear iron breastplates and morions, following the full militarization of Spanish conquistadors. Their main weapon, following the second expedition, is a matchlock musket and a pike or halberd, ready to perform their signature "pike and shot" routine to lay waste to any Ocrean army.
Composition
Equipment
Spanish armor, mostly made in Toledo, was among the finest in the world, certainly more stronger than the Ocrean's lamellar armor, encased from head to foot in a iron shell, Spanish conquistadors were all but invulnerable when facing any opponent.
Weaponry
The Conquistador weaponry was compiled of steel swords, pikes and halberds for close quarters, while their ranged weapons were primarily the matchlock musket and the crossbow. After realizing the firearms terrified the Ocreans, they decided to use the musket as their primary weapon.
History
The conquistadors were first used as explorers in search of new lands and glory, but their rise to prominence was the part they played in conquering a set of island nations far west and forming the Spanish West Indies, where they establish a base of operations of the Spanish conquistadors in search of more lands to conquer, but many failed attempts to finding land north and south decreased the motivation of the Spaniards.
But, their fame only truly preceded them after Spain established itself as a major influence on the continent of Ocrea, due to Hernán Cortés and his expedition allying with the Shajin clan, which established the conquistadors as a powerful adversary on the entire continent to any Ocrean clan. This led to a massive boost to the amount of conquistadors, as tales of the beautiful land of Ocrea has inspired many veterans and soldiers to join Cortés and his expedition in his holdings on the continent.
