Bladebride Profession in Occident Setting | World Anvil

Bladebride

Inaster's warrior-devotees are the blade-brides, bloodthirsty warrior-maidens feared and desired in equal measure. They wander the world in search of strife and love, ocassionally gathering into great hosts under the command of a Lioness, the highest of their ranks. These hosts sweep across the land like locusts, and have neither pity nor mercy for their defeated foes. They often find employment as mercenaries, for their ferocity is a great boon to any warlord that can tolerate their lack of discipline. Other bladebrides do not find even the limited organization of a host to their liking, instead travelling on their own or in the company of other adventurers.
Blade-brides live lives of riotous revelry, drinking and fighting and feasting. They wear almost nothing, and in battle they wear nothing at all, trusting to their stout tower shields or catlike reflexes to keep them from harm. At times, some of their number act as if possessed, cackling in ancient tongues, running through the wilderness, and seeing visions of things that might be. Such episodes are regarded as gifts from Inaster, and those who recieve them are accorded great honor by their sisters, their god-drunk words waited on with baited breath and their every need attended to.

Career

Qualifications

Any woman may choose to devote herself to Inaster as a bladebride, although the most common route is through her temples. First the initiate must serve as a prostitute in one of her temples, and after serving 49 clients the goddess will visit the initiate's dreams, and plant within her the Fire of Heaven. This Fire ignites the passions of the bearer even as it causes her eyes to blaze with inner light and smoke to coil from her orifices. However, Inaster is nothing if not fickle, and any woman who she finds entertaining, or interesting, or otherwise catches her attention may be gifted with the Fire of Heaven.

Other Benefits

Those who become bladebrides are granted eternal youth and beauty, although they will still die of old age when their time comes. As part of this, their skin never scars, nor can it be marred in any way. They have greatly increased endurance and enhanced reflexes, allowing them to fight for hours without tiring and dodge arrows in flight. However, a bladebride must remain forever unwed; celebacy is not a requirement for obvious reasons, but their only husband is to be the sword or the spear. Should a bladebride be married, all of Inaster's favors will pass from her like smoke from a fire.
