Tenders of Sief

Water. Soil. Light. Without these, a plant can never hope to grow and mature. Instead, it will wither and waste away into an unfulfilled nothingness marked with disappointment. In some regions, growth comes easy as it is coupled with a seemingly endless abundance of resources and opportunities. In others, uncooperative conditions leave plants stunted and gasping for life. Obstacles like rocky soil, salt-laden rains, and creeping shadows all contribute to the plague preventing the growth that is necessary for the continuation of life. These challenges have yielded a sect of sacred protectors who reshape life's many burdens to facilitate the growth that is thirsted for by so many. Known as the Stones, its members have accepted the fact that despite their best efforts, they also hinder the growth of others. Instead of working towards the impossible task of removing every obstacle, the Stones guide others through the sands to find their own path around the turmoil and realize their complete potential.

The Stones farm the narrow terraces that line the northern border of Mihlaj, living in the pockmarked cliff face that overlooks the cistern. Despite the harsh climate, beans and peppers flourish under the watchful eye of the Stones. Although the Tenders of Sief are devout and determined to assist others in their quest towards personal perfection, there are some among them who would rather keep the tenets of the Stones shielded from the public eye. Whether it stem from an elitist view or the desire to cling tightly to the scraps of doctrine that separate the layman from the enlightened, these gatekeepers are few and far between.
