Harmon Isandros

Harmon Isandros (a.k.a. Astakos)

Popular, charismatic, handsome, and undeniably talented, Harmon Isandros, who sings under the stage name Astakos, is an international celebrity, an up-and-coming moving picture star, and the voice of radio and film.   Born in Koriapeum, the son of a bookmaker and a launder, Isandros' family was a deeply unhappy one, and arguments between his parents, and between neightbours, frequently became violent. As a child, he found an escape in the music halls, where he spend increasingly large amounts of time in order to avoid his family. An unaccompanied child was not an unusual sight in the low halls, but Isandros' regular attendance led to him being unofficially adopted by the singers as a kind of mascot.   By the time he was a teen, Isandros was no longer living at home, but had effectively moved into the East Wall Music Hall, living in a small room in the attic and earning a living doing oidd jobs around the venue. He made his debut performance at fourteen, stepping in to the Pasema Trio when his friend, Idaios Andraemos, was unexpctedly taken ill. He proved to be extermely popular and Isandros continued in the role as Andraemos's illness worsened. After his death some five months later, Andraemos was found to have died of henbane poisoning. His husband was arrested on suspicion of murder but eventually released due to a lack of evidence.   Isandros toured with the Pasema Trio under the name Harmon Astakos, dropping his first name when he became lead singer. By seventeen, Astakos had proved to be a talented songwriter and savvy negotiator, changing the trio's repetoire to feature mainly his original compositions in a lively style that proved especially poular with young women, and arranging performances at increasingly large and high-end venues. He abandoned the other two members of the trio mid-tour in 5.913, when he was given the opportunity to meet Ninurta Kikuid for a private perfromance.   Following this meeting, Astakos was signed as a solo act, a move which coincided with the audio boom and the introduction of phonograph records to Iasteron. He became one of the first artists to capitalise on the new technology, securing a recording deal that would go on to make him the voice of both Haskun Records and Haskun Films. In 5.916, aged 21, he married the president of Haskun Media, Samuqan Enlil-bani in a ceremony that was kept secret from his fans for publicity reasons but was widowed eight months later. Despite the sudden decline in their health, the reason for the death was given as natural causes and Astakos inherited his late spouse's fortune and a controlling stake in Haskun Records.   It is unclear when Astakos' association with the Oracles of Qyne began, but he plays regular events at the Rasorshell nightclub in Thsúntos and both he and Kikuid openly socialises with known cult members. Although Astakos benefits from his association with the cult, cultivating 'bad boy' image, he has denied rumours that he is actually a member of the organisation, claiming that his engagements at the club are purely a matter of playing a well-equipped and well-paying venue, and that his associates are merely business acquantances. Nonetheless, he has never disavowed the group or their practices, and membership of the cult has risen among teens and young adults as a result of his association with them.
