The Continental Cores
Each of the nine continents of Nuome had a central location that was once the seat of power for the continent. This was an area where the waves of magic met with the waters of the earth and the lines of the power of divinity. it was here, at the center of the continent, that the elements met as well. A pool of lava exuded from a rock into the river, and mixed with the air. Great cities were built in these locations. After the Sundering, these cities were lost, along with their access to the continental power centers. The power at eight of these locations dimmed, no longer tethered to the main lines of power. The center of the world, the middle continent, however, remains active and the power is growing once again.
The 9th continent, the middle remains unmoved. This continent is completely surrounded by steep cliffs a mile high in some places. If one were to find some way beyond these cliffs, one would find every biome represented. In the center of the continent, upon a mountain, is a lake. In the center of the lake there was an island, and on that island there is a great tree. It is from this island and from this tree that all power of Nuome emanates. This is the home of the goddess Aileen. There was never a great City here, only a great Temple, the residence of the goddess. This Temple is the place where Aileen communes with THAT WHICH IS. THAT WHICH IS is that power which created this pocket dimension, this solar system, and this planet. IT is the force which radiates Magic like the ripples caused by a stone dropped into a bucket. It is the force which empowers the spirits of Nuome and gives the priests the divine power to answer their prayers. THAT WHICH IS is the force which combines the elements, creates the oceans, and the continents, and the air. It is the breath of Life for all creatures great and small upon the face of Nuome. Aileen is IT's Priestess. She does not control THAT WHICH IS, but she petitions It and learns It's desires and goals and aids It in accomplishing those goals.
The center of Nuome, the seat of all power on the planet, is here on the middle continent. It is here where a portion of the mind of THAT WHICH IS resides. This is where IT's Temple lies and IT's Priestess resides. From this strange place comes the direction of the evolution of the planet of Nuome, it's history, and its future.
