Quina Silver

A silvery metal-like numenera substance, only known within the Quina caldera, with some unique properties:

• Thermal regulation - if in proximity to a sufficient mass of the metal water will not drop below 4C and air not below 10C
• Several forms of Numenera respond weakly to proximity to the metal - not enough to activate cyphers spontaneously but enough to indicate some sort of interaction - and the metal in turn responds illuminating from within when exposed to certain active Numeneran devices or activated nano clouds
• When exposed to a thick black ink-like oil pressed from the nuts of a plant unique to the oasis it grows over the oil as if "eating it"

The founders of Quina discovered that when the oil was tatooed into the skin and the metal allowed to grow into/over the tattoo the infusion of the metal within the skin enhances the bearer's ability to perform esotaries reliant on manipulation of the nano clouds that permeate the ninth world. These striking metallic tattoos became a mark of those nanos who had trained and lived in Quina. Each choosing their own patterns to be lined in black, which would slowly be overtaken by the silver metal, like some sort of reverse tarnish.
